POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In honor of 9/11 Day of Service, WP students came together for our annual Pioneer Service Ventures, volunteering across Paterson, Clifton, and right here on campus. 🧡 💪

From preparing food and hygiene kits and filling 100 backpacks for veterans, to supporting local pantries, caring for WP’s feral cat shelters, and helping community organizations, our Pioneers turned a day of remembrance into a day of action. 🇺🇸🤝

Thank you to every student, staff member, veteran, first responder, and community partner who made the day so meaningful. 🧡

2,977 lives were lost. But 2,977 is only the number. It cannot measure the empty seats at dinner tables, the unanswered phone calls, the birthdays that were never celebrated together, or the futures that suddenly stopped unfolding.

September 11, 2001, became a moment forever divided into a before & after. In a matter of hours, ordinary lives were interrupted, families were changed, an entire nation was forced to confront a grief that could not be contained by borders or measured in numbers.

25 years later, the distance of time does not lessen the weight of what was lost. If anything, it reminds us of the responsibility we have to carry these stories beyond history books; to remember the people behind the photographs, the names behind the memorials, and the lives that existed long before that morning.

& Among those stories are the first responders who ran towards the unimaginable while others were trying to escape it. To them, Sigma Chapter would like to say thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and service which became part of a legacy that continues to live on. We also honor those who survived and continue to carry the physical and emotional consequences of that day.

There is something very powerful about remembrance. To remember is to say that a life mattered. That a story deserves to be carried forward. That the passage of time does not give us permission to forget.

As a sisterhood rooted in Unity, Love, & Respect, may we continue to choose compassion over division, community over indifference, and remembrance over silence.

As the William Paterson community comes together to remember 9/11, Pioneers planted flags in memory of all those who were lost and to honor all those who have served and continue to serve as first responders, service members, and veterans. Our students honor one of the greatest legacies of 9/11 over the past 25 years with a Day of Service to others. Thank you to the first responders and veterans who shared their stories with them, and thanks to the Haledon Fire Company for coming to campus to fly our flag from their ladder truck. #neverforget

After serving in the United States Army and raising two children, Shawnize Jackson returned to the classroom to pursue a lifelong dream: earning her bachelor’s degree. 🎓🧡

At WP, she found the support, community, and Will. Power. to thrive as an adult learner, and now shortly after Commencement, she’s beginning her dream career. 💪✨

As we reflect on this Memorial Day, Shawnize’s story stands as a reminder of the strength, sacrifice, and resilience of those who serve our country. 🇺🇸 #WPUNJ2026 #WeAreWillPower

Student-veterans are a valued part of the William Paterson community, and we are proud to have been named a Gold Level Military Friendly School. Student-veterans who are graduating at our upcoming Commencement ceremonies will be recognizable by the stoles and cords they received at a recent campus ceremony recognizing their contributions. Join us in congratulating them and thanking them for their service! #wpunj
