I made a choice 11 years ago, I could either live in misery or simply just live, I chose to LIVE.

That choice brought me here, to the Hanger Clinic Integrated Care Center in Chicago with @wremi76 and a team of skilled compassionate people who fit me with my first pair of running blades.

I never wanted to be an athlete, my goal was to get my life back. I’ve worked so hard in this body to be able to achieve this level of Prosthetic use. I have no plans to run a marathon or even a 5K for that matter. I just wanted the freedom to be able to move my body, in all the ways that I deserve, running included.

MOVEMENT IS A RIGHT NOT A LUXURY.

Well… apparently I still like having some pretty badass feet. 😂

👟 I GOT A NEW PAIR OF KICKS! 👟

Meet my Fillauer AllPro XTS feet, customized for BAKAs specifically for me by the amazing Wendy Remington at Hanger Clinic! On Monday, I have an appointment with my clinic, Martin Bionics, to get them put on—and I seriously cannot wait.

MOBILITY MATTERS!

I was fortunate enough to trial these feet at BAKA Bootcamp, and they gave me some of the best mobility I’ve experienced since becoming a paraplegic bilateral above-knee amputee.

The video means even more to me because of what happened right before it.

I had just walked through the gravel pit. I was tired. My arms were tired. My body was fatigued. But when I started walking with these feet, something felt different.

I felt CONFIDENT.
I felt STRONG.
I felt MOBILE.
And most importantly, I felt like I wanted to keep going.

For someone who has had to relearn what mobility means over and over again, that feeling is HUGE.

These new kicks aren’t magically going to do the work for me. I still have to train. I still have to build strength, balance, endurance, and confidence. There will still be hard days and probably a few choice words along the way. 😂

But they give me another tool to keep moving forward.

My goal isn’t perfection.

It’s progress.
It’s independence.
It’s confidence.
It’s MOBILITY.

And I can’t wait to see where these new feet take me. 👣💪🦋

As an amputee, movement has never meant just movement to me.

Movement means community. Movement means freedom. Movement means independence. 🦿🦾♿️

Feeling incredibly grateful this weekend.

I’m grateful to be a longtime patient of Hanger Clinic⁠ (@hangernews) and for their support of Angel City Sports⁠ (@angelcitysports), an incredible organization providing adaptive sports opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities.

I got to try archery and the putting clinic for the first time, and I had so much fun. 🏹⛳️

There’s something special about being in a space where accessibility and inclusion are truly built into the environment.

A special shoutout to So Every BODY Can Move @soeverybodycanmove for advocating to expand access to prosthetic and orthotic care for physical activity.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to move, participate, and belong. ♥️

Had the opportunity to connect with First Lady of Utah @abbypalmercox and @sebcmutah at the Governor’s Mansion to discuss prosthetic access legislation. The goal is to make sport specific adaptive equipment mandatory for insurance providers. I am so proud to be involved with a case like this as I understand the true financial burden that is being an amputee. People deserve to get outside and experience life on equal terms! #getoutandmove

Proud of this advocacy team that keeps showing up !

We’re feeling energized and thankful to @abbypalmercox for showing up for So Every BODY Can Move Utah today. We were invited to have a visit at the Governor’s Residence to share about our advocacy mission and hear her thoughts and insight as a public leader in government. We felt heard and supported and grew together 🪴. The First Lady of Utah shares passion for several things that align with our values: education, community, mental health and inclusion. Her work with @showuputah is tremendous. We appreciate the opportunity to build relationships with her and other leaders in Utah as we look to move our initiative forward.

Our team members with lived experience shared personal stories of need for orthotic and prosthetic devices. We talked about how our focus for inclusion and access could potentially build a legacy in Utah - as we prepare our state and community for Utah2034 Olympics and Paralympics. And we witnessed her love of children and a special connection to the youngest on our team. ❤️

We are so proud to represent the disability community in Utah and bring this discussion to important leaders that care and show respect and understanding. We are fueled to think about the day we may return in the future to have our bill signed by @govcox 😉 📝

BAKA!!! Bilateral• Above• Knee• Amputee• Boot camp 2026 in Chicago.

Adrian and I flew to Chicago to attend this life changing event put on by (Hanger Clinic) my prosthetic company.

Thank you to everyone who helped me from Hanger!!! You know who you are.

Inspired by my prosthetist, technician and physical therapist, Matt, Russ & Kerri. Also a HUGE thank you to Kevin Carroll w/Hanger. This would not have happened without these amazing humans.

It was a fun filled 4 days of action packed love and support from every Hanger/ volunteer/ Student persons who were there. This is not an exhaustive list. Trust me. I wish I could list everyone and everything. Every activity. It's just too much.

All 40 of us Ak's who were there "walked" away more knowledgeable in every aspect of the realities we live with each day. I'm speechless and over filled with love and gratitude for all the people I met and new friends I (we) made. Pretty special.

We learned, laughed, cried, ate, danced, experienced new things. Didn't sleep much. lol. Wrecked our bodies. But in a good healthy way. Had a fun Tornado warning scare one night. Can you imagine 40 legless amputees hurrying up to seek shelter. You've never seen amputees get out of a pool that fast I bet. Haha. I could go on.

My heart is full and I'm excited to live out what we've learned and can't wait to go again next year. These are just a couple pictures I took with some of the new friends I met and worked with. Their film team was the best and I can't wait to see the video. Good people!!!

I was told there was going to be a similar event taking place in my hometown San Jose, Ca. in Sept of this year. It's a sign. I have to make it. It will be hard for me to afford and as much as I don't like asking for anything, I might start a "go fund me" for that event. It's that important to me. More on this later.

This was the highlight of my baka bootcamp experience, to teach @valdelatorre a skill I never thought I would be able to accomplish myself.
That’s the magic ✨ of bootcamp, we are all capable of so much more than we could ever imagine, if we just make that BOLD MOVE!

@valdelatorre you are a light and I’m beyond grateful to have been able to be part of your journey.

Post 2: A New Pair of Feet, A New Level of Walking

Today at Hanger’s BAKA Boot Camp, I had the chance to try a new pair of prosthetic feet—and wow, what a difference.

For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was truly walking heel to toe. My gait felt smoother, more natural, and more controlled than ever before.

As a bilateral above-knee amputee and paraplegic, walking isn’t something I take for granted. Every improvement matters. Every adjustment matters. Every step forward matters.

I’ve spent years adapting, learning, and rebuilding after amputation and paralysis. To experience a change that immediately improved my walking was exciting, motivating, and honestly a little emotional.

It’s amazing how the right technology, combined with determination and great clinicians, can unlock new possibilities.

I’m excited to see what else is possible.
