28. for you to experience Irene’s work in our collection, both her poem and her essay. “Experience” is a fitting word as she is a multi-disciplinary artist who knows how to deliver her charms with a unique inviting verve. She’s taught me how to braid the talents we embody into each project we hold, each encounter we have. Also, my connection with Irene is proof that a cold call to an admired poet/neighbor might lead to a hot cup of tea…and a friend.

27. for you to read Kate Mayer’s contributions to our collection, two short prose pieces that touch nerves and heart, in the best of ways. Kate and I met in 2012 as Listen to Your Mother members (@ann_imig ) in the first NYC show. Unforgettable! As are the sporadic “grocery store lunch dates” we’ve had, mostly to laugh and talk shop. Check out her work @kathykatemayer for the range she possesses as a writer (which is wide and impressive) and for some no-nonsense ideas about “life as she lives it.”

What does “inheritance” mean to you?

I was honored to join the “Inheritance” cast of @writersreadorg and read my story. ✍🏻

Writers Read said, “In this tender and deeply relatable personal essay, Tess Clarkson returns home after her mother’s death searching for a treasured pumpkin bread recipe that shaped her childhood. As memories of brown-paper packages and quiet acts of care resurface, she discovers that some inheritances aren’t found in kitchen drawers—they’re found in the ways we learn to nurture ourselves.”

So grateful 🙏 to @amydupcak and the other editors @cagibilit for including my essay "Refuahs" in the latest issue of their beautiful magazine.

It's about Big Pharma, our broken health care system, and old-fashioned remedies like the google moogle (also spelled gogel mogel).

I was delighted to be part of the special event on Sunday called ‘My American Song,’ part of the @carnegiehall United in Sound:America at 250 festival. My essay on ‘The Presidency in Song’ was an unusual one for me and I will have more about the story in my Substack. Thanks to @edward_mccann_ for organizing this @writersreadorg and the wonderful writers who shared the stage. #writersRead #MyAmericanSong #CarnegieHall #NYTheater #WritersReadOrg

Get your tickets at the link in bio and tell all of your friends in NYC.

What a thrill to be on stage at @writersreadorg!

I loved being part of the “Inheritance” cast alongside so many incredible writers and with my writing group friend, Barbara. ✍🏻

What does “inheritance” mean to you?

For me, it meant so much more than the recipe I tried to find after my mom died.

Now, “inheritance” also means stories shared and celebrated. ♥️
