POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I am *out and about* in October, chatting all things books and editing and publishing to anyone who’ll listen.

15th Oct: How to Write a Non-fiction Proposal with @curtisbrowncreative - excitingly this online course is SOLD OUT, but we’re currently looking at 2027 dates so keep your eyes peeled if you’re interested.

17th Oct: Non-fiction Writers Meet-up, @the.writersworkshop - in person in Sheffield. 3 spots left!

27th Oct: Submitting to Agents for Creative Writers with @writingeastmidlands - I’m told this course is very popular, and this is my first time doing it online, so if you’re stymied by synopses, comp titles, query letters etc., please join us!

Plus one whole day delivering in-house editorial training which is simultaneously very exciting and completely terrifying.

Links to things you can come to should you wish are in my bio.

Happy National Poetry Day! ✍️📖

This week I received my copy of Rhapsodies on the Spectrum, published by Beyond The Spectrum, a project by Writing East Midlands.

The collection features some of my latest poetry, including An Underdog’s Code.

What started as random scribbles on scraps of paper became something much more meaningful — poems written straight from the heart and shaped by my own experiences.

Sometimes you don’t set out to write a poem. You simply start putting thoughts down, and somewhere along the way, those scribbles become something that speaks for you.

I’m incredibly proud to see some of those words now sitting alongside the work of other writers in this collection.

If you’d like to get a copy of Rhapsodies on the Spectrum, you can find the link through the Linktree in my bio. 💙

⭐️ Join Juliette's Workshop!⭐️

Textiles, Identity & Mental Health—Making Something of Your Story

What can a piece of fabric say about who we are, what we’ve experienced, and how we see the world? Join award-winning comedian and theatre-maker Juliette Burton for a playful, creative textiles workshop exploring mental health, identity, and self-expression.

Taking inspiration from the creative process behind the costumes for Juliette’s show ExperiMental, you’ll experiment with colour, texture, pattern, and words to create a small textile piece of your own. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, and no creative experience required—just the freedom to explore and make.

If you’d like to, you’ll have the chance to share your finished textile piece as part of a special one-night-only WORD! gallery at Attenborough Arts Centre that evening. Your work will sit alongside a playful, evolving display of words, drawings, and textiles—pegged to washing lines, written on tables and walls (with banqueting cloth to catch it!) As part of the evening, Juliette will take to the stage to perform, ExperiMental—wearing the bespoke costumes that have grown out of her previous community textiles work. There will also be an opportunity to share your textile piece again at WORD!Fest at Leicester Central Library on 27 October.

📅 Thursday 24 September 2026
📝 Workshop: 4–6pm
🎤 Show: 7–9pm
📍 Attenborough Arts Centre, Lancaster Road, Leicester, LE1 7HA

Help us fill the theatre with poems, pictures and words! 🎨📝

Next Thursday 24 September, we’re celebrating Abi’s Birthday WORD! Takeover at Attenborough Arts Centre — and we want you to help us transform the space into a giant, living gallery.

Come along from 6.45pm and add your words and art to our WORD! gallery. Scrawl them on the walls, write them on the tables, peg them to washing lines… make your mark wherever you fancy - as long as there’s some banqueting cloth underneath to catch it!

We’ll be filming and photographing the gallery as it grows, sharing the results online to celebrate not only Abi’s birthday, but the brilliant and diverse talents of our local poetry, arts and creative community.
