🥼🩺 It’s white coat season! Over the past few weeks, thousands of first-year medical students across the country have donned their white coats for the first time - a tradition symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in their journey to becoming physicians.

The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage for medical students in which a white coat is placed on each student’s shoulders and the Hippocratic Oath is recited, signifying their first symbolic step into the medical profession. First introduced in 1993 by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, the ceremony highlights humanism and compassion as central to medicine.

To the class of 2030: Congratulations, future doctors!

There’s a lot to learn from each other at the OAR Annual Meeting.

This morning’s poster session brought trainees and OAR members together to talk through research and make connections across generations of rheumatology.

We’re grateful to our poster presenters for sharing their work and to the OAR members and leaders who stopped by to ask questions and support the next generation of the specialty.

✨ Staff Spotlight: Meet Dr. Gwyn Fox Stump! ✨
Acting Associate Dean of Office of Student Affairs and Admissions &
Director of Student Services

🌟 Role
As a member of the Office of Student Success team, Dr. Fox Stump collaborates with faculty, course and clerkship directors, educational leaders, and campus stakeholder. As an Acting Associate Dean of Student Affairs & Director of Student Services, she also provides leadership for student affairs, working closely with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student well-being, oversee student progress, and foster a positive learning environment.

🌎 Personal Background
Born and raised in North Dayton, Dr. Fox Stump attended Butler University (#GODAWGS 🐾) before returning to the Dayton area after getting married. She holds degrees in Integrated Communications, Student Affairs and Higher Education, and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership.

🤝 Work History
With nearly 17 years in higher education administration, Dr. Fox Stump has dedicated most of her career to supporting undergraduate, graduate, and law students at the University of Dayton. Prior to higher education, she spent five years working in finance at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

🎨 Hobbies
A devoted sports fan, Dr. Fox Stump cheers on many teams, especially Butler Bulldogs basketball, FC Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati Bengals. Much of her free time is spent on soccer fields, both near and far, supporting her son.

* Favorite thing: Spending time with her family ❤️
* Favorite places: Acadia National Park (Maine), Estonia, and the many beautiful parks throughout the Dayton area

💚💛 Today, we celebrated an amazing group of local high schoolers as they completed our Raiders First High School Summer Program. Throughout the program, these students explored academic and career pathways, built new skills, and discovered more about their own potential.
They also had the opportunity to hear firsthand from current medical students at the @wsubsom and put their skills to the test during a fun CPR Challenge hosted by @wsu_cheh, as well as a personal finance and budgeting class with @wsucosm and @raidersuccess 💚💛
Watching these students grow, gain confidence, and thrive on our campus was so fun to watch.
This transformational program was offered at no cost to students thanks to the generous support of our sponsors. Special thanks to Synchrony Financial, The Dayton Foundation, @pacodayton, Bob Appenzeller, the Division of Undergraduate Education, Retention and Student Services, and all six undergraduate-serving colleges at Wright State University.

23rd bday + 1st year med school finished!

praise God for His faithfulness through it all! so blessed to have friends to walk through the highs and lows with, to live out the calling on my life with purpose, and to grow into the person I’m supposed to be.

as I step into this summer, my prayer is simple: keep me close to You. give me wisdom to seek the right things and courage to let go of the rest. shape my heart and renew my mind. fill my cup with Your presence so I can pour into others. in every mountain and every valley, remind me that You are my peace.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6

I continue to dedicate this season to You — med school, ministry, every moment in between. help me prioritize You first, so everything else flows from that place.

Through our Regional Grant Cycle 1, @wsubsom received $293,968 to launch the @daytonstreetmedicine program in collaboration with @premierhealthohio, Premier Community Health, and @daytondreamcenter. The initiative focuses on delivering primary care directly to individuals experiencing homelessness.

In just its first 12 months of operation, Dayton Street Medicine has provided 448 clinical visits and conducted 313 health screenings, helping connect vulnerable community members with critical healthcare services.

We are excited to see this impactful program continue to grow, expand its reach, and improve health outcomes for even more Ohioans.
