Did you know…

⭐️Howard Stern got fired from WTBU!
Before becoming a nationally famous radio personality, Howard Stern hosted The King Schmaltz Bagel Hour at WTBU in 1973. The station claims it was the first to fire him after a controversial on-air segment.

⭐️WTBU’s studios were destroyed by a fire.
In March 2016, a three-alarm fire devastated the station. WTBU reopened its rebuilt studios on October 4, 2017, with technology inspired by SiriusXM’s flagship studios in New York.

⭐️WTBU was an early pioneer of internet radio.
The station began webcasting on Halloween in 1999, making it one of the earliest college radio stations to stream online. Its innovation even attracted attention from The New York Times.

⭐️WTBU has won national radio awards.
WTBU won College Music Journal’s Station of the Year award in 2012, 2013 and 2014, according to the station’s historical website. It has also received recognition for supporting Boston’s local music scene.

⭐️WTBU News covered the 2020 presidential election for SIX hours straight.
On November 3, 2020, the news team broadcast live election coverage from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m., following swing states, Senate races and voting in Massachusetts.

⭐️WTBU News covers more than just BU.
Its programming has included New England, national and international news, along with entertainment, sports, politics, campus updates and Boston arts and culture.
