TANZANIA ON THE GLOBAL STAGE 🇹🇿

Congratulations to Upendo Ernest Lyimo, a Tanzanian innovator who has won the 2026 UN Climate Change AI for Climate Action Award for developing CLIMAID, an open-source platform that uses artificial intelligence, satellite observations and geospatial data to help communities anticipate climate risks and strengthen their responses to droughts, floods and other environmental challenges.

👏 This achievement highlights the power of Tanzanian talent, science and innovation in addressing global challenges.

At @diary_of_ocean.doc (DOC), we believe that stories like this deserve to be shared not only to celebrate success, but also to inspire young innovators and connect knowledge with action.

🌍 As climate challenges grow, how can we better support African innovators developing solutions for more resilient communities and a sustainable future?

Kheri ya siku ya kumbukumbu ya Nyerere.Daima tutakuenzi

We honor the legacy of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, who championed conservation as foundational to our lives. His words remain a potent truth: “Conservation is not just about wildlife; it is about the environment in which we live.” This is a call for all youth in the country to take action.
We are delighted to collaborate with @wwftanzania on this essential initiative. Together, we protect and restore the life of our environment.

What if the key to conservation was not simply protecting nature, but making it more valuable to the people who live alongside it?

In this episode of the African Conservation Podcast, I speak with **Azaria Kilimba from Carbon Tanzania** about the role of carbon finance in community-led conservation, and how protecting forests and wildlife can generate tangible benefits for local communities.

From village forest reserves and wildlife management areas to carbon credits, Azaria explains how communities can turn the natural resources they have protected for generations into a source of income — supporting village game scouts, schools, healthcare and local development.

But conservation finance is not a simple solution. We discuss the challenges of carbon credit projects, the importance of land-use planning, and why communities must remain at the heart of decision-making.

One message stands out: deforestation is not always a failure to understand conservation. For many people, it is an economic choice. Unless protecting nature provides a viable alternative to agriculture, charcoal production or other sources of income, conservation will struggle to compete.

A fascinating conversation about finding common ground between climate action, biodiversity conservation and the everyday needs of the people who make it possible.

BIRTHDAY REFLECTION | PURPOSE, IMPACT & ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP 🌱

Today, as I celebrate another year of life, I celebrate more than just my birthday. I celebrate the journey, the lessons, the growth, and the purpose that continues to shape the person I am becoming.
My journey is deeply rooted in the belief that true leadership is not defined by the positions we hold, but by the positive impact we create in the lives of others and the world around us.

From nurturing tree seedlings to participating in environmental conservation and community initiatives, every experience reminds me that meaningful change begins with small, intentional actions. Just as a seed requires patience, care, and the right environment to grow into a strong tree, our dreams, leadership, and communities require commitment, consistency, and a willingness to serve.

As a Geography and Environmental Studies graduate, I remain committed to environmental sustainability, youth empowerment, community development, and building a future where people and nature thrive together.
On this special day, I am grateful for the gift of life, the people who have contributed to my journey, the opportunities to learn and serve, and the challenges that continue to strengthen my character.

My commitment for this new chapter is simple: to grow with purpose, lead with integrity, serve with humility, and create an impact that extends beyond myself.
May this new year bring greater wisdom, stronger purpose, meaningful partnerships, and more opportunities to contribute to sustainable development and the empowerment of young people.
Here's to another year of growth, service, resilience, and impact. 🌍🌱
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! 🎂🎉
Growing personally. Serving purposefully. Impacting communities. Sustaining our planet.

🌍🌊 MY PARTICIPATION IN COP12 NAIROBI CONVENTION – ADVANCING OCEAN CONSERVATION AND THE BLUE ECONOMY 🇹🇿🌿

I was honored to participate in the 12th Conference of the Parties to the Nairobi Convention (COP12), hosted by Tanzania, bringing together representatives and stakeholders from countries including Tanzania, Madagascar, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, France, Somalia, and South Africa.

Key discussions focused on: ♻️ Combating marine plastic pollution and improving waste management. 💙 Promoting a sustainable Blue Economy and responsible use of marine resources. 👩🏽‍💼 Creating opportunities for youth and women through green businesses, innovation, entrepreneurship, and employment. 🤝 Strengthening regional cooperation for ocean and coastal conservation.

As a representative of Mazingira Ni Uhai Foundation, this experience strengthened my commitment to environmental conservation, plastic pollution reduction, and empowering youth and women to benefit from green and blue economy opportunities.

I believe young people and women are not just participants in conservation—they are innovators and key drivers of sustainable solutions.

🙏 My sincere appreciation to the COP12 organizers, the Government of Tanzania, and all stakeholders for this valuable opportunity to learn, share experiences, and build partnerships for a sustainable future.
