Letters are being submitted to the TRW legislative committee. We are sharing details from various letters. Thank you Wyoming resident Steve Dudley! ~ See link in our bio for our take-action! “1. The practice is cruel, inhumane, and immoral. When I was eight years old, my father bought me a BB gun and taught me the ethics and sportsmanship of hunting. I passed his values down to my children, and they passed them on to their children. I recently saw a video of a snowmobiler in Wyoming running down a coyote, breaking its back, then wheeling around and running over it again. I assume he eventually shot the animal. This behavior is not sporting. It is barbaric. 2. The bill, as proposed, is unenforceable. Paragraph 6-3-1002, Cruelty to Animals, allows for running down predators with a snowmobile if the injured animal is immediately killed. Unless present at the time, how will a peace officer or law enforcement officer with the Game and Fish determine the snowmobiler “immediately” used all reasonable efforts to kill the injured animal? The only enforceable law is to prohibit the running down of predators, period. 3. The running down of predators with snowmobiles is unnecessary for effective animal damage control. There are several examples of animal damage control that are either non-lethal or perpetrator-specific removal of the animal(s). Moreover, funds are available to compensate ranchers for the loss of income due to predation. 4. The proposed bill invites federal oversight on federal lands. The failure of the Wyoming State legislature to pass a moral, humane bill and its continued legalization of running down predatory wildlife with snowmobiles has engendered condemnation of the practice across the nation. This month, a bill with bi-partisan support has been introduced to prohibit this barbaric practice on most public lands owned by the United States and administered by the Secretary of the Interior. Such a bill would have been unnecessary if the Wyoming State legislature had acted more responsibly and ethically in crafting legislation around the treatment of predators and specifically outlawed running down predators with snowmobiles.” Steve Dudley

Believe it or not, trapping is legal on almost all public lands across Wyoming. An adequately set trap or snare is nearly impossible to see and can be baited, unintentionally attracting your pet. In Wyoming, trappers can legally set an unlimited number of traps, including along heavily used hiking trails. Trapped or snared pets may have only minutes to live once caught. More than 85 dogs have been reported trapped, and 11 have been reported killed in Wyoming since 2000. Many more go unreported. What you learn in this workshop may save your pet's life. With the Wyoming furbearer trapping season starting October 1st, the Wyoming Untrapped (WU) team is happy to announce that our highly requested Trap Release Workshop will be offered again this season in person. WU has worked diligently to provide these workshops so that our communities will be safe, prepared, and educated this trapping season. This year's workshops will be held in Laramie on September 29th, Pinedale on September 30th, and Jackson on October 1st. This event was made possible by our wonderful sponsors, Friends of the Bridger-Teton and PAWS of Jackson Hole, and through the generosity of our supporters, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Wyoming Coalition for Animal Protection (WYCAP), Happy Endings Animal Rescue (H.E.A.R),  and caring individual donors nationwide. We are grateful for every single one of you.  Follow the link in our bio to learn more, and plan to join us for one of these informative and essential workshops. #wyominguntrapped #petsafety #wyoming #jacksonhole #Jackson #pinedale #humanesociety #friendsofbridgerteton #pawsofjh #laramiewyoming #laramie

Wyoming Untrapped is busy: protecting you, your pets, and our Wyoming wildlife. For one month each summer season, WU participates in a community fundraiser which offers donation matching opportunities, #oldbills2021. It is an amazing event which helps to ensure our mission-work for another year. What you learn in this workshop may save your pet’s life. Wednesday, Sept 15, 6:30 PM MT With furbearer trapping season just around the corner, starting October 1st, the Wyoming Untrapped team is happy to announce that our highly requested Trap Release Workshop will be offered once again this year. In response to recent COVID-19 safety concerns, WU has worked diligently to offer this workshop virtually so that our communities will be safe, prepared, and educated this trapping season. Learn about traps, snares, conibears, and how to release them if your pet is caught. This event is FREE! A properly set trap is very difficult to see and most are baited. It is legal for trappers to set an unlimited number of traps on public lands, including on popular, heavily used hiking trails. Trapped pets may have only minutes to live once caught. More than 80 dogs have been reported trapped and 10 have been reported killed in Wyoming since 2000. Trappers are not required to report trapped pets and in the wake of the trapping incident, pet owners may choose not to report as well. We fear the true numbers are much higher.
