#1330 with vacation & work, I haven't been able to make it out to many shows as of late, which made this amazing line up all the more reason to get out of the house. I realized how important & rejuvenating it is, at least for me, to leave the house & stand amongst people sharing the same music experience. It was made even better by being around friendly, familiar faces, too. Due to rain, the show moved from Spruce St Harbor Park to Cousin Danny's & finally the Pouch, I was relieved to have the show locally, even if CD would have been even closer. Kicking it off was @ringtone.phl, sounding the best I've seen them yet. Perhaps it is the strength of the new ep, or addition of keys & trumpet for a few songs, or mayne the sound was working tonight, but they sounded better, tighter, & had more fun than they've been before: all bangers; cut the short song. They brought more twang into the powerpop, & the vocals felt more focused & purposeful. 2nd was @heatloaf, kinda twee yet thic shoegazy band with delicate, fragile harmonies. Although I "should" be into them, I am not. They come across to me a little sleepy, where their songs build but kinda end without delivery. Not every band/song has to write with anticipation & release, but that works for me. Speaking of that dynamic, @thesmarthearts capitalize on the strategy. With driving powerpop, their chords always pay out by the chorus. They don't even like folks sitting down during their set! Full of energy & philly rock royalty supporting them in the crowd, they charged through their sweaty set, throwing in a new song or two. The headlining band, IN's @goodflyingbirds, also played many new & "yet to be written" songs. Including a "cover from Weezer's new Gold album." Really like this quartet, as they remind me so much (at times) of the lovely hard/soft, twee/fast harmonic songwriting juxtaposition of #joannagruesome. The crowd thrashed to some songs, others they stood still or bopped. In any case, the new material proves they have a bright path in front of them, & they're just getting started. So much so that they had to be cut off a song early...Thu curfew?

EEEEEEEP 😳 That’s right, our debut single “Pokie” is out now on Bandcamp! We’ve sent Spotify a list of demands and maybe if they follow through we’ll put it there eventually, but until then, visit the link in our bio to pre-order our EP, “Play Guitar” for the low low price of a cup of coffee 10 years ago. We’ve been sitting on these songs for a minute but they are sounding better than ever, thanks to the tireless help of @etaifuc and our guests @alex_but_autonomously on organ, @daphne_saatchi on horns, and @gabbofrank666 on guest vox. Pokie specifically also features a ton of our friends, and it feels so special to get to include so many people we love in this big moment for us! So all that is to say, give it a listen, maybe pre-order the EP, and stop by @minimart.phl for our release show tonight! We’ll be playing the whole thing as well as plenty of other tunes, new and old. Love to all the speed dialers, Ringtone ☎️ Cover art by @doctorbabywizard
