que cute y que chino has a gun 💃 this summer i got to do west side story as my chicago professional debut!! everyday i miss this family we created. i’m so very grateful for getting to say i was apart of this production and worked with such a brilliant team. but even more so, grateful for this sexy cast that made these moments together so special, onstage and off. i will forever and always be a shark 🦈 WEPA!! @musictheaterworks @claytoncross @isa_nychi @gerritsonsasha @lindamadonia

Columbia College Chicago alums and current and former faculty members were among the winners at the 58th Anniversary Equity Jeff Awards, held September 14 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.  The Jeff Awards, considered Chicago’s top theatre honors, recognized 41 recipients selected from 209 nominees across 37 categories for work produced during the 2025–26 Equity season.  Columbia-connected winners included:  🎭 Grant Sabin ’05 🎭 James Sherman 🎭 Daryl D. Brooks 🎭 Kirsten Fitzgerald 🎭 Teressa LaGamba ’13 Columbia alums JC Widman ’14 and Milo Bue ’16, along with School of Theatre and Dance faculty member Maximo Gran de Oro, also contributed to the award-winning production of “Octet.” Widman served as stage manager, Bue served as scenic designer, and Grano de Oro served as lighting designer.  School of Theatre and Dance faculty member Ray Frewen directed the awards ceremony, which featured performances from nine nominated productions.  Bravo! Chicago, my heart is full. #OnYourFeet #Familia… ¡Gracias! You all make me so happy. In 1998, I did my first show in Chicago. In 2015, I arrived in this city with a dream, a show called On Your Feet!, and my one-year-old son by my side. Chicago became part of our story. During the pandemic, I had the honor of returning to work with the Chicago Children’s Choir. Later, I was able to gather artists for several Viva La Fiesta events. And this year, I came back with On Your Feet! once again. Last night, I sat beside my son, surrounded by this extraordinary theatre community, and felt the magnitude of the journey. So grateful. Thank you to the producers, creatives, committee, and everyone at @thejeffawards for creating a night that truly honors the people who make theatre possible. Celebrating excellence is beautiful. Creating a space where an entire community can recognize, inspire, and lift one another is something even greater. To @drurylaneproductions, thank you for believing in our vision for On Your Feet! and giving us the space to make something uniquely ours. And to my cast, creative team, musicians, crew, producers, and every person who poured their heart into our production: this honor belongs to all of us. You made the work brave. You made it joyful. You made it human. You made it ours. Last night reminded me that awards can celebrate a moment, but the real gift is the journey—the people we meet, the work we create together, and the communities that allow us to keep dreaming bigger. Chicago, thank you for welcoming me, for becoming part of our story, and for welcoming us again in 2026. Thank you for reminding this Puerto Rican kid who dreamed of making theatre that the dream is still alive, still evolving, and still worth chasing. Gracias Chicago and gracias @thejeffawards
