A new illustrated version of LOTERÍA REMEDIOS will be released next summer by @hayhouseinc 🌞 It has been a long process, but always more enjoyable when you get to work with friends🌹We give thanks to the many within our circle who have supported this collaboration & the expansion of the original project 🪴

The deal announcement from Publisher’s Marketplace reads:
Xelena González’s LOTERÍA REMEDIOS, an oracle deck and guidebook that reimagines the classic Mexican card game of lotería as a tool for reflection and spiritual divination, with illustrations by Jose Sotelo Yamasaki, to Anna Cooperberg at Hay House, at auction, for publication in summer 2024, by Adriann Ranta Zurhellen at Folio Literary Management (world).

Sharing some images and video clips from the @tobincentersa 2nd quarterly #creativesandcocktails event that featured the collaborative project, “Permission to Play”. (such an honor to have our work featured!) It was the 2nd event that the Tobin Center has hosted where they bring 200 people from various art organizations, artists, and people from City leadership together for an evening of connecting, community building and fun. “Permission to Play” is @centrosanantonio “#arteverywheresa project where @vocabulous and I were invited to bring art and music together in the form of a mural. Naturally…music…art…dance had to be the metaphor we chose for the art on the mural, together with the song, “Are We There Yet” to inspire adults to make time connect to their inner child and play. It has so many benefits! Like Vocab’s song says, “Playing is Good for the Soul!” Unfortunately I did not get the wonderful remarks from Centro’s new President and CEO, @trishdeberry (I’m so excited about what her leadership will bring Centro!) Some of my thanks are on the 2nd clip but I didn’t include my thanks to Rick Frederick-the Tobin’s master of ceremonies; Andi Rodriquez for her tireless energy in filling downtown spaces with works from San Antonio artists, @odiousdancelife and @xfactor.live for all they brought to this project and bringing their dance talents to the event, and Vocab for being such an amazing performer and just a most wonderful human to collaborate with. Also to my husband, Ron a.k.a “Mr. Barbara Felix” 😋 (just to clarify, I’m Mrs. Ron Felix). #A few more pics may be coming. #myheartisfull #sanantonioartcommunity #muralart #spokenwordpoetry #hiphopdance #networking #conversations #connections #artists #community #networkingevent The first 6 incredible photos are from San Antonio’s master of performance photography, @jojodancerphotos (love Xelena’s pointed toe!)

I am currently editing video I took at #alaac23 to be featured on @kidlittv in the near future. Nine brilliant minds talking to kids and teachers about creativity. I can wait for you to see it!

We had a fantastic time at #ALAAC23 this past weekend with so many of our authors and illustrators! Award ceremonies, books signings, panels, and more happened throughout the weekend. The best part, of course, was celebrating our incredibly talented creators.🎉

If you stopped by our booth or were at one of our events, be sure to tag us in photos! We love spreading the Lee & Low love.❤️📚 Tracy Occomy Crowder smiles in the Lee & Low booth at ALA 2023, holding an advanced copy of her book, Montgomery and the Case of the Golden Key.

Got back from #alaac23 and immediately added these two new beautiful pieces to my wall. These gorgeous images are from WE WHO PRODUCE PEARLS by @alonglastname (written by @joannahowrites) and from WHERE WONDER GROWS by @adrianamjgarcia (written by @xfactor.live). Love love love having this artwork in my work (and Zoom) space.

Note: to make room I had to shuffle things around so I moved my beloved signed Shaun Tan print… but it’s still hanging in my office and now I can see it while I write. 😉👍🏽

Finally, coming down from a weekend high! The Lee & Low Books team brought my picture book partner-in-crime Xelena González and myself to the National ALA Conference in Chicago to rub elbows with amazing dedicated librarians, publishers teams, award winning illustrators and authors, Refroma, and ALSC. This years hardworking volunteer committee Reforma awarded honors to well deserved talent like San Antonio’s own author Stephen Briseño, Karina Nicole González, Celia C Pérez, Karina Nicole González, Vincent Tirado, Natalia Sylvester, Camille Gomera-Tavarez, Sonora Reyes and illustrators like Magdalena Mora, Duncan Tonatiuh, Kat Fajardo, Loris Lora, Mirelle Ortega, and Krystal Quiles. They gave the gold to author Claribel Ortega and to Where Wonder Grows's illustrations. I had to give a speech and everything. :O Not only did my agent Stefanie Von Borsel come in from Portugal to cheer us on, the team from Lee and Low consisting of one of the amazing brother leaders Jason Lee and the team of Jenny Choy, Shaughnessy Miller, Jennifer Khawam, and Jessica Echeverria, took their family of authors and illustrators to attend the Caldecott Newberry banquet. WHAT!!! I got to fan girl out on the authors and illustrators that won those prestigious awards. I met them too! And when I say met, I mean I asked them to take a pict with us. Claudia Guadalupe Martínez pointed out that all winners had strong significant others to keep them on task. So shout out to all supportive partners. Oh, did I mention we snapped a pict Jason Reynolds? Met up with editor Celia with Simon & Schuster, publishers of our new book REMEMBERING coming out this August. Also, I met up to snap a pict with with editor Simon from Norton Young Readers, publishers of a book that illustrations are in the works. I'm still whirling but so grateful that I get to live this life. What a group of people dedicated to making sure everybody can read "whatever they want to read" (a quote from a Caldecott Newberry honor winner). Be you, the only you that you can be (like one that wears a jumpsuit to receive and award). Check out the ALA online presence to get a full list of winners #Lee&Low #Reforma #shine
