The Senate Farm Bill failed to advance in committee along party lines due to disagreements on SNAP benefits. There was no amendments even added to add in the “Save Our Bacon” Act that would put pigs in tiny cages. Both major wins for animals. The Senate now goes on summer vacation and has till year end to come to a compromise on SNAP. If they do, this could move quickly. But for now, this is the best news we could hope for. Thanks to everyone who called. There have been reports of senators getting thousands of calls on this issue. All this public pressure makes a difference!

Most people have never been told what happens to male chicks in the egg industry. Because they can’t lay eggs, they’re killed within a day of hatching — ground up, hundreds of millions a year in the U.S. alone. One of the biggest animal cruelty problems in our food system, and one of the least known. This month, that shifted. NestFresh @nestfresheggs became the first national egg brand to move its entire line to a no-cull standard, using in-ovo sexing — technology that identifies a chick’s sex before hatching, so males are never born into that fate. Verified by Certified Humane. It doesn’t end egg farming, and doesn’t pretend to. But it means hundreds of millions fewer chicks killed — and proof that a practice the industry called unavoidable can be undone. The catch: the technology works, but almost no one knows it exists, and only a few producers have adopted it. That’s the gap. It becomes the standard only if we make noise — and only if the companies still culling male chicks feel real pressure to follow. So help us put this on the map. Share it, talk about it, and call on the producers and retailers still culling to adopt the solution that already exists. These cruelties aren’t permanent. They end when enough people refuse to look away.

🐷 WE HELD THE LINE — FOR NOW. The Senate Farm Bill discussion draft was released, and the provision that would gut Prop 12 is NOT in the text. That’s a real win, and it’s because of the calls, emails, and pressure from people like you. But this fight is far from over. Here’s what’s at stake: that provision — sometimes called the “Save Our Bacon Act” — would override Prop 12 and hundreds of state animal protection laws across the country. It would force pigs back into gestation crates so small they can’t even turn around, undoing protections voters chose. It’s not in the draft. But the pork industry’s allies in the Senate are already working to add it back in as the bill moves through committee in the coming weeks. The committee is expected to take up the bill between the July 4th and August recesses — which means the next few weeks are critical. This is exactly when public pressure matters most. Industry lobbyists are counting on this issue staying quiet and out of the headlines. Our job is to make sure it doesn’t. 👉 Call your senators. Tell them to oppose any amendment that preempts state animal protection laws. 👉 Share this post. Keep this issue loud and visible. The cages stay empty as long as we keep the pressure on. 🧡

We are happy to introduce Animal Policy Platform - a free platform for animal organizations to turn legislative strategic action. It is the same platform used by @xfaorg Action For Animals App to bring up to date legislative action for individual advocates. The platform allows animal originations to: - Track state and federal legislation with priority, classification, summary - updated daily. - Track pro animal and anti animal Legislators. Our goal is to make it easy for animal organizations to support, track and propose animal legislation and identify and support pro animal legislators. Link in BIO to use it.

Senator Boozman confirmed that he plans to drop the Senate Farm Bill text next week. The bill is not expected to contain the Save Our Bacon Act, which would put pigs in tiny cages. The fight is just getting started. The Senators answering to the National Pork Producers Council will certainly try to sneak this in - so it’s important to keep calling, and making this issue a red line. The Senate is on vacation after this week and are expected to take up the text in committee in July.

Senator Boozman said last Wednesday that he plans to release the farm bill text by the end of this week (June 8th)! Although we expect that the Save Our Bacon act will not be in the text - we need to make this issue a red line so it cannot make it in the farm bill through an amendment or during conference! So keep calling at least weekly - it will be a long fight! Use the Action for animals to make it easy and for latest updates!

Thank you @senalexpadilla for standing up for animals, Californians and Prop 12. Although the senate draft farm bill will not contain language this will nullify animal welfare laws - the pork industry is still lobbying senators to add it in! They will try to add it as an amendment - so let’s keep pushing! So continue to call your senators and let them know this should be a red line issue for them!

We’ve got a major win to celebrate, but we absolutely cannot take our feet off the gas just yet. 🏛️🐖 Senate Agriculture Committee leaders recently confirmed that their upcoming base Farm Bill draft will NOT contain language to negate California’s Prop 12. Because a Senate bill requires a bipartisan 60 votes to pass, the aggressive push to strip away state-level animal welfare protections simply didn’t have the legs to make the cut. This is huge. It shows that the massive wave of pushback from voters, advocates, and conscious consumers is working. BUT THE FIGHT CONTINUES. 🛑 While the Senate is holding the line, the version of the Farm Bill that just passed the House still contains the anti-Prop 12 language. If that version ultimately triumphs during negotiations, it won’t just kill Prop 12—it could wipe out more than 500 other state and local agricultural laws nationwide. The Senate text drops in early June, which kicks off the high-stakes battle to reconcile the two very different bills. We have the momentum. Now, we have to keep the pressure on Congress to ensure the final bill protects animals. Share this post to spread the word and remind everyone that the work isn’t done! 🗣️✨ We continue to monitor the situation. But keep calling.
