XIMENA

@ximezb

Earlier this year, in the middle of winter, I got very lucky shooting with Ximena on one of the few days that the sun had shown its face.

With short intervals of sunlight, we kept waiting for the thick clouds to pass and hoping that the quiet road would be free of cars or people passing by. It was freezing, but Ximena braved the cold and brought such serene energy that it feels as though these photos were shot on a summer’s evening.

🛣️⏳Merging the moving images on screen with the passing views outside the window. Both are choreographed, but one is a pre-recorded playback while the other is completely live.

To truly taste the passing of time in this setting, I wanted to explore the connection between human age and the passage of time from the perspective of a passenger. 🛣️⏳

——————————————
The whole project is titled:
👶🏻🛞《Peak Hour in the Car》 🚗 🍼
“A journey for the audience in 2D and 3D through site-specific dance film screening and live performance.”

🧠 Vehicles carry lives and bodies from one point to another. I am creating an experience that happens inside, outside, and around the car(s). When I describe it as a “journey,” it refers to the audience’s experience, but also to traveling, transforming, turning (the wheels), and becoming.

👵🏻I wanted to capture the essence of the idea: “As the car moves forward, the passengers grow older.” So do the performers, and so do the audience. People, whether performers or passengers, come and go in your life’s journey, too.

During my MA, I was too busy to share what I was researching. This project has been lingering in my brain ever since graduation. People tell me it’s too difficult to make it happen in Hong Kong, and maybe they’re right. But I’m not ready to let it go just yet.

For now, let’s keep the spark alive. ✨

👶🏻 Some preparation of my research project 《Peak Hour in the Car》 🚘
-Trial and error
-Movement exploration: Baby in a car
-Finding the camera angles
-Test shoot
-Safety checks for dancers

A tiny “rehearsal room” in a beautiful vintage car. Such a luxury! Super grateful for the generous help from the car owner, Oliver.

This is not a standalone Screendance work, but rather a work-in-progress trial for a larger project. I’m sharing just this single session here as a reminder to myself: don’t give up on my baby, yet!🤰🏻🎬

We are excited to present Flor del Recuerdo as part of Resonance Dance: Fearless at Sadler’s Wells East Foyer.

📍 16 July | 🕖 19:00

For us, Fearless means facing the greatest uncertainty we all share: death. Inspired by the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos, Flor del Recuerdo reflects on how the Cempasúchil (marigold) guides the souls of our loved ones home, transforming fear into remembrance, celebration, and hope. By honouring those who came before us, we embrace the cycle of life with courage instead of fear.

Direction & Choreography: Alondra Galván, in collaboration with the dancers.
Performed by: Ximena Zerón, Damara Velázquez, Lesly Avendaño & Alondra Galván.

We can’t wait to share this journey with you. 🌼
