Normal weekend plans in Xi’an: hang out with an 8,000-man army from 200 BC. 🏺

Quick visitor info:

- Entry: ¥120 standard / ¥60 with student ID (bring your physical card)
- Transport: Metro Line 9 to Huaqingchi (Exit C) ➔ Bus 613 right to the gate (~¥5 total)
- Food: Fresh Biang Biang noodles cost around ¥15–25 right outside the complex

Commissioned by Qin Shi Huang and built by over 700,000 laborers across 38 years, this subterranean necropolis stayed buried until farmers struck clay in 1974. Excavations never stopped: rebuilding a single warrior from shattered shards takes restorers roughly two years, and modern preservation tech finally keeps original pigment visible—you can spot traces right on the face in this clip.

Every soldier is distinct. Hairstyles and armor reveal exact military ranks, with lower-class frontliners positioned ahead to claim enemy heads for social promotion. The Kneeling Archer stands out as “The Lucky One,” the only statue found completely intact. The complex holds more than infantry: court officials and acrobats were buried too, and while the wooden chariots decayed millennia ago, the terracotta warhorses held up remarkably well.

Just a casual afternoon off from classes at XJTU, wrapped up over noodles. Want to see life in China through the eyes of an Italian student? Follow along! 🇮🇹🇨🇳

Today we attended the opening ceremony of the XJTU academic year.

We have welcomed the wishes of a good start to the year from the professors of the Xi’An Jiaotong University and, surprisingly, also that of the rector of the Politecnico di Milano.

#xjtu #polimi #openingcerimony #exchange #studyinchina

From Suzhou to Xi’an, and all the way west to Liverpool 🚴🌍

Luke Rimmer, an exchange student from the University of Liverpool at XJTLU, is well on his way through his incredible Silk Road cycling adventure!

The summer heat has been his biggest challenge, but the kindness of people he’s met along the way has made sure he never feels alone 💙

A huge thank you to @xjtu1896 for the warm welcome, and to everyone along the route who has shared their kindness with Luke 🫶🏻🚴✨
