One of the worst things you can be as an autism parent is in denial. This not only holds your son or daughter back from bettering they’re quality of life but also makes it much more difficult for your life as a parent.

This is your son or daughter and if you are open minded they can teach you a thing or two.

Sweetest sonshine 🌞
This is Mica and her son Rico. Last time I saw Rico he was a tiny baby, a few months old, when his mama got in touch with me she mentioned she wasn’t sure how a shoot would go as Rico is Autistic.
Well it went like this; we played, ran, laughed and had kisses and hugs in between.
When you can see someone as their unique self, understanding their own boundaries and personality, it doesn’t become about what we CAN’T do. It’s about what we can.
Mica speaks of how she wants to raise Rico in a world where other Adults and children ask about him with curiosity rather than stare in lack of understanding. This starts with us, as parents, to ignite our children’s understanding of other people in the world.
Let your child ask about skin tone, unique characteristics, behaviours, disabilities, accents, cultures, gender identity - so we can lift the taboo on speaking freely with appropriate terminology and learn with one another when we are wrong or meet someone we haven’t had the pleasure to.
Rico, sweet boy, you inspire me to help create that world.
