There’s no single “right” way to make a sneaker, but if there were, it would probably start long before the upper ever touches the sole.

On this Air Force 1 Low rebuild, I’m using Renia Primer for PUR to prep the polyurethane component inside the cupsole before bonding. Is primer always mandatory? No. But understanding the materials you’re working with and preparing each surface correctly is what separates a quick rebuild from a pair that’s actually built to be worn.

Sneaker construction is a process: proper surface prep, the right primer, the right adhesive, accurate sole alignment, consistent pressure, and finally the sidewall stitch.

None of these steps are particularly flashy, and most people probably aren’t thinking about polyurethane prep while looking at a pair of sneakers. But they’re the foundation of a durable rebuild.

And this pair isn’t finished yet. Now that the construction is locked in, they’re heading out to Katie for a professional dye job before we reveal the final result.

If you’re learning how to make shoes, rebuild sneakers, or get into custom sneaker construction, learn the materials first. There may not be one singular way to build a sneaker, but the final product is still only as good as the prep underneath it.

Two days ago, we opened the doors to our first flagship store at @cloud11bangkok.

I still can’t fully wrap my head around it.

Seven years ago, I was making shoes in my childhood bedroom in Bangkok. Making my first client pair fifteen times before it was good enough. Losing money. Wondering if I was delusional.

Two days ago, I walked through the doors of our own flagship. It hit me all at once. Every burned pair. Every night of doubt. Every “not yet.”

All of it led here.

To my team—thank you for building this dream with me. To my family—thank you for letting me chase something you didn’t fully understand. To every client who has trusted us with your story—thank you.

To @pauliesirisant—thank you for seeing what we were building before we could show it in full.

This moment belongs to all of us.

Xylar Studios’ Puma V-S1 Dress Shoe explores what happens when traditional shoemaking techniques are applied to a contemporary sneaker silhouette. Beginning as a pattern-making exercise and series of material mock-ups, the project gradually evolved into a fully reconstructed version of the V-S1 using Japanese Tochigi leather, premium suedes, full leather soles, and hand-welted construction.

Rather than simply changing materials, the project reconsiders the shoe’s entire method of construction. Leather midsoles and outsoles replace the original tooling, while hand welting introduces techniques more commonly associated with bespoke and heritage footwear. Notably, the original plastic heel counter remains, preserving a small but important reference to the sneaker’s origins.

The result sits between two disciplines, using the Puma V-S1 as a framework to explore how sneaker design can be interpreted through the processes, materials, and craftsmanship of traditional shoemaking.

Some handmade AJ1 85 Royals anyone ?? Perchance ?

Been waiting a long time for a client to ask me to make an 85 Royal and the minute the 85 low Royal came out we finally had the right base to work out from.

Sad I had to cut up the lows they actually are a solid pair in my opinion, but gotta do it. Client said these were his favorite from the set of 9 we did and he even workouts in them 😭😭

Anyways hope yall have been well I’m legit just working away these days. Stay creative

Finally have the soles on these and sewn on, plenty of headaches with this pair but has been worth it in the end.

Lot of debating with wha the lace color should be on these but I’m leaning towards the aged purple laces to match the original 85s that are aged to perfection.

I think I’m still gonna add a little more wear and tear on the toe and collar with scuffs marks.
