Same job. Same title. Less pay. In academic emergency medicine, women were paid less than men at every rank, from instructor to chair. Black women assistant professors earned about $20,000 less than white men at the same rank.

At an academic conference a month ago, I caught up with my colleagues and classmates from @yale.em residency - and - y’all, these are just amazing people. They’re leaders in training, education, AND research - #1 in NIH funding 2021-2024, #2 in 2025

Graduating from @yaleschoolofmed emergency medicine residency was a moment of immense accomplishment and pride - and being able to do it alongside these humans is truly a joy.

To any prospective medical students or future physicians out there - emergency medicine is probably one of the hardest jobs - and there’s absolutely no job I’d rather have.

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce that Stephanie Carter, MD, a general surgery resident, has been elected by her peers to serve a second term as president of the Yale Minority Housestaff Organization (MHO) for the 2026–2027 term. Her reappointment shows the trust of fellow trainees and recognizes her leadership in advancing MHO's mission to support underrepresented-in-medicine (URiM) residents and fellows through mentorship, recruitment, professional development, community engagement, and pipeline programs.
