We’re excited to welcome Yami Becerra Barbosa to the William Edmondson Arts & Culture Fest for a live stonecarving demonstration!

A Mexican American artist born in Memphis, Yami explores feminine identity, class, culture and labor through sculpture, often bringing personal and found objects into conversation with stone and the physical work behind carving it.

At WE Fest, guests will have the opportunity to watch that process unfold in real time and experience firsthand the skill, patience and craftsmanship that go into transforming stone.

Come see @yami.becerra at WE Fest 2026!
📅 Saturday, October 24
⏰ 10 AM to 4 PM
📍 William Edmondson Homesite Park & Gardens
🎟️ Free and open to the community

Stay tuned as we continue introducing more of the artists and performers joining us for WE Fest 2026!

Please welcome us in joining Yamileth Becerra Barbosa @yami.becerra this Friday, September 18th at the Joan Flasch Artists Book Collection for the first discussion in BRIDGES.

BRIDGES is an artist talk series hosted by the Latin American Student Society that advances critical discourse surrounding contemporary artists and cultural production. The series brings emerging Latine artists into conversation with students and broader campus communities, creating an interdisciplinary forum for examining the personal, social, cultural, and political contexts that shape artistic practice.

Yamileth Becerra Barbosa (b. Memphis, TN) is a Mexican American artist interested in exploring feminine identity, class, culture, and labor. Her sculptures recontextualize personal and found objects to explore their functions and movement outside the mundane use. Yamileth is currently working towards her BFA in Studio Art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. At SAIC, she was a participant in the First-Year Scholars Program. Yamileth has shown at Site Gallery in SAIC, ZieherSmith in Nashville, and Urban Art Commission in Memphis.

It’s been a week since we took down Pedacitos y Paredes at UAC, and I’m still feeling the gratitude and love from all the people who walked through the doors to see artwork by Memphis Latines. The word I keep coming back to: Ánimo.

Let’s keep it going mi gente

Thank you to everyone who came to the Opening Reception for Pedacitos y Paredes last week. I was thrilled to see so much of Memphis come out to support these Latine artists.

From critiques with the artists to collaborating on “Entre Pasos Somos” and the intimate hang post-reception (after most people left at 7pm - thanks Travis at @urbanartmemphis 😁), this entire process has fueled so many moments of meaning.

One of my favorite moments: Surrounding “el encargo de mis hogares” with 3 señoras I had not met before to answer questions about my work.

DM me if you’d like to donate an item or service for the fundraiser. 🤎 #moresoon
