A moment where everything felt in the wind✨Set beside the lake and surrounded by lush planting, our SS27 runway unfolded across the @barbicancentre Lakeside Terrace, transforming its fountains, elevated walkways and Brutalist architecture into an open air catwalk.

A bespoke layout placed guests around five circular structures on the western terrace, creating a fluid route between the audience, the water and the architecture, while keeping everyone close to the collection.

At the centre of the fountain, mirrored Bubble balloons by @xl_architects floated and danced above the water, reflecting the models, audience and iconic Barbican architecture. Their shifting reflections transformed the Lakeside into a surreal landscape of movement, nature and illusion.

The Barbican was designed in the 1960s, the same era in which M. Butterfly, one of the inspirations behind Air•Illusion, is set. This connection between fashion, architecture and history became part of the world we created.

The Brutalist geometry of the Barbican softened against the movement of nature, fabric and wind, everything coming together in harmony.

We loved this beautiful moment: the perfect weather, the perfect wind, and a feeling of joy, freedom and being completely present. 🌿💨✨

SUSAN FANG SS27 Air•illusion Show is scented throughout with Penhaligon’s Bold Blend, a potion perfume chosen for its ambiguity: a fragrance that can play either the female or the male role. Small potion bubble bags are styled into the show as hints of each character’s mystery.

This is collection inspired by M. Butterfly and the imagined worlds people create around love. Drawing on observations of relationships, Susan explores how fantasy shapes the way we see another person, and how love can remain real even when the image we hold of them is an illusion.

The show marks the first time a fashion show has been staged at the Barbican Centre Lakeside. Its brutalist architecture, where nature meets the built environment, provides a setting for a collection about surfaces and what lies beneath them. There is also a historical connection: the Barbican scheme was agreed in 1959, with construction continuing through the 1960s, the decade in which M. Butterfly begins.

Various scents of Penhaligons magical scented potions are also gifted at the front row, circling the lakeside seats.
