Barely made it @butterartfair but caught the tail end of Sunday, just a couple hours absorbing the art & documenting attendees rocking art from head to toe to fingernails 💅🎨
Did I miss your nails at Butter? Post your look & tag me 🙏❣️
.
Shoutout @digitsby_indy for having designed the 2 dopest nail art looks spotted on Sunday👏🔥🎨 You’ll notice that natural nails & solid colors got a spotlight too because nail art is all about expressing YOUR style - and NATURAL IS A VIBE ❣️🫶 The perfect chocolate brown, a poppin neon, a fierce shape can say enough!
.
For the sake of getting this post out at all, I didn’t include ppl’s names, just tagged a few pages whose tags I could remember quickly - please shout out who you see or tag yourself or your art in the comments❣️❣️❣️
.
Lastly… I did NOT see the pearl noose at the show… I wasn’t using my eyes or looking up? Clearly my eyes were caught up with nails every 5 minutes…. But the conversation, controversy that has stirred up has been painful & insightful, definitely critical, important… it’s given me a lot of food for thought. Still listening/reading & investigating community’s thoughts & my own thoughts as an artist. Check out @spn.slim post to get into the conversation.
.
I def have questions about the curation, intended sale market (or was it not for sale?), what statement accompanied it in the space - or was there none? Was that intentional? Where was it? Was it discretely placed on purpose, or was I just blind/missed a display area? Is the young artist being provided with support in this moment where his identity is being attacked as much as his art piece? A lot of questions, thoughts provoked….
May weigh in soon despite my whiteness - as a supporter of Butter (micro)financially & artistically as a nail tech & content creator, plus word of mouth promo to my clientele… it does sadden me to see a rift growing between Butter & local Black community artists, small businesses & activists/radical thinkers that I respect. Plus @aesindiana pissed me off w/ that Butter wrap up “community empowerment” Reel too. like IDGAF you sponsoring Butter, ya’ll are straight CORPORATE DEMONS ☠️

If you missed the Black Joy festival this year, Midwest Leak is bringing you some outfit inspo for next year 🔥.

Our @leakyouth team member @khalia.2 stopped some folks to see how Black Joy is expressed through fashion ✨.

When I say “Outfit Check,” just know we’re spotlighting excellence.

These creatives didn’t just get dressed — they curated a moment.

Fear of failure? That’s the real setback.
Progress starts the moment you stop caring what others think and start showing up for yourself.
Own the grind.
