A short clip from our concert at the @theoldchurchn16 last April.

The piece tells the story of Halim Dener, a 16-year-old Kurdish boy from Bingol who arrived in Germany seeking asylum in May 1994.

Just a month later, Halim was shot dead from behind by a German police officer in Hanover while putting up flags and posters.

Lyrics:

Bu şarkıyı ilk kez çocukken duydum… çoğunlukla Kürtçe şarkılar söyleyen Ermeni bir dengbêj olan Karapetê Xaço'nun kaset kaydından.

1915 Nisan Ermeni Soykırımı'ndan çocukken sağ kurtuldu. Anne ve babasını kaybetti. Neredeyse 90 yıl boyunca Kürtçe şarkılar söyledi, Yerevan Radyosu'nda da çalıştı. Ama ne yazık ki, 104 yaşında yoksulluk içinde öldü. Ölmeden önce şöyle demişti: “Hayatımın 90 yılını Kürtlere verdim, ama onlar bana bakamadılar.”

Bu şarkı, Müslüman bir genç adam ile Asurlu bir kız olan Sare arasındaki imkansız aşkı anlatıyor.

Şarkıda Sare şöyle diyor:
"Dinlerimiz farklı olabilir, ama kalplerimiz bağlı kalıyor."

🦌 Bingol (Armenian Song – Live)

Bingol, the place where I was born, surrounded by mountains and lakes, where Kurds and Armenians once lived side by side.

Written by the Armenian poet Avetik Issahakian, this poem speaks of lost love, exile, and longing for home… Bingol.

“When the green doors of spring opened,
the springs of Bingol sang like a harp.
I am lost; these roads are foreign to me.
Sister, tell me — which road leads to Bingol?”

🎙️Here are some moments from April 11th at Old Church, London. A night of music, memory, and solidarity.

For Kurdish people, memory is deeply important, carried through stories, voices, and songs. This evening was about keeping those memories alive beyond borders.

3 years ago this exact day, singing on stage at @royalalberthall with my soul sisters and brothers singing laments from Turkiye & Syria..
Fond memories of solidarity after the terrible earthquake , now good friends but at the time newly met organisers coming together as @soundsofsolidarity_sos to raise funds..

This was an occasion I will never forget ❤️
