Fancy a nosey around some of Sheffield’s most creative spaces? 🎨

@yartspace’s annual Open Studios weekend returns on 21 & 22 November, with more than 100 artists and makers opening their doors at Persistence Works and Exchange Place.

From painting and ceramics to jewellery, printmaking and contemporary art, it’s a rare chance to peek behind the scenes, see works in progress, chat to the people making them and even pick up something special directly from the artists.

Ahead of the weekend, we caught up with four resident artists – @contour_map_collection, @evelyna86, @liannemellor and @roannawells – to find out what they’re working on and what visitors can expect when they step inside.

🔗 Head to the link in bio for the full interviews and a closer look inside their studios.

@yartspace on Brown St in Sheffield City Centre is currently home to the works of 15 of the most exciting artists working in the UK right now.

YAS is committed to champion both established and emerging artists, which you can see in this exhibition open Thursday - Saturday until 17th October.

Be sure to head down and have a gander, and see if you can spot the work of YAS Exhibition Award winner @gwenevanswork 🫟🎨🖌️

Ahhh, a long train journey and finally time to reflect on the opening of the Contemporary British Painting Prize at Yorkshire Artspace last weekend @paintbritain @yartspace

As always, wonderful, warm and special. And a beautifully selected exhibition (by iainandrewsart @danielhbell_artist @rachel__lancaster & @emmatod1 ), elegantly curated by Grant Scanlan @huddersfieldartgallery which must have made for a very difficult judging process by the lovely Georgina Kettlewell (Director at YAS), @ryanmosley01 & @katherine__lloyd & the judges for the Judith Tucker Memorial Prize, Harriet Tarlo, @hannahbrownartist and Griselda Pollock. So lovely to see and spend time with you all. And the rest of the YAS team Rachael Dodd & @tylermellins . CBP love working with YAS 🫶

Congratulations to the winners too. All very well deserved.

And finally to say, it was very special to spend time with @narbiprice and @paulamacarthur_ We are usually just bouncing around zoom calls and falling between emails. Paula & @philillingworth make the prize the wonderful thing it is. We missed Phil & @nataliedowse at the opening this year but his presence on WhatsApp pulled us all through the looking glass. And also lovely to see so many CBP members and friends and colleagues at the opening.

It was all love in the room and a sunny and stormy day which felt like spring with battering rain and the clouds sweeping across the sky like a paragraph in a William Golding novel ( I think it was Freefall)
which has stayed with me since adolescence when I lived in the desert and a spring day was unimaginable and exotic and he described it so profoundly. The sharp strange sorrow of it. I digress. Back to the point....

Love you CBP! 💚💚💚
