Don’t miss Liquid Tongues on the big screen at WDDDFF 2026 Friday Evening Dance Documentary & Shorts Film Program!

Friday November 6th, 6-9pm at YBCA Screening Room

"Liquid Tongues" is an audio-video installation currently on view at the Polish Pavilion during the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (9 May – 22 November 2026) in which Bogna Burska and Daniel Kotowski seek alternative ways of communicating inspired by more-than-human life. The social Choir in Motion (Chór w Ruchu), made up of hearing and Deaf people, perform interpretations of the communication codes and songs of whales, simultaneously in English phonic and international sign (IS) languages, building visual-spatial-sonic fantasias on the theme of possible translations.

A few moments from my October 9 talk at @ybca in San Francisco.

A conversation with @jd_beltran about art, public space, collective memory and the ideas behind Beyond Walls — and about the role art can play in creating connections within a city.

Thank you to JD Beltran, YBCA, and everyone who joined us for this exchange and shared their questions, thoughts and perspectives.

Wishing you all the best with @artpluswater and all the projects ahead.

Looking back at the highlights of the the third annual Nexus: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week, organized by the Museum of the African Diaspora (@moadsf)! Across five days, more than 100 artists and 80 organizations came together for over 200 exhibitions, performances, artist talks, and events celebrating Black artistic expression throughout the Bay Area.

This year's edition expanded its reach across California, forging new connections between Bay Area and Los Angeles artist communities. Highlights included "Art eXodus: From North to South, The Coast at Four One Nine," "A Call Home: Bay to LA" at Streetlight Gallery in Oakland, and exhibitions and programming featuring Mildred Howard at the Oakland Museum of California (@oaklandmuseumca), an artist walkthrough with Sadie Barnette and Lava Thomas at Jessica Silverman (@jessicasilvermangallery), and more.

At MoAD, three new exhibitions opened during the week, including "Dewey Crumpler: Sonic Lineages," "After the Island: Ornament and Ceramic Practice in the Jamaican Diaspora," and "Calling All Cats! by Dorian Reid." The week culminated in the Afropolitan Ball at San Francisco's Ferry Building, where Crumpler received the inaugural MoAD Vanguard Award.

Launched in 2024, Nexus (@nexussfbay) continues to build connections across generations, institutions, and communities while amplifying the artists shaping Black cultural life in the Bay Area and beyond.
