Meet Carlos Alfredo González Vargas, CEO of PACCHAR

He traveled all the way from Ecuador to Mongolia for @cop17mongolia, and he’s bringing a simple but powerful idea with him: turn waste into healthy soil.

Through biochar, Pacchar (@pacchar.ec) transforms residual biomass into a soil amendment that boosts crop productivity, cuts costs, and gives smallholder farmers a new income stream through carbon credits.

Carlos (@carletorock) is a 2025 Youth Ecopreneur (YECO) fellow (@ye_community).

Global Cerah has officially been granted Observer Status to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification - making them the first private company from Malaysia to achieve this accreditation 🇲🇾🌍

This is a notable achievement for founder Wei Li Ng, a finalist and mentor in the Youth Ecopreneurs (YECO) programme. It proves how targeted support for young ecopreneurs elevates grassroots innovation directly to global policy platforms.

Global Cerah scales regenerative agriculture by transforming agricultural waste into alternative livestock feed and organic fertilizers. This UN platform empowers them to scale three circular economy solutions globally:

🔹 Input Cost Reduction: Insulating local farmers from supply chain shocks with hyper-local organic alternatives.
🔹 Waste Valorization: Diverting tons of agricultural waste from landfills into high-value biological assets.
🔹 Soil Resilience: Deploying practical land-restoration frameworks tailored for tropical climates.

What if creativity could open new pathways for civic participation?

We often think about civic participation through formal institutions, consultations and established civic spaces.

But people also participate through storytelling, art, design, dialogue, making and co creation.

So what happens when we intentionally bring these practices into the civic space?

This is the question behind “Civic Participation Through Creative Ecosystems”, our work exploring how Africa’s creative economy can become a catalyst for civic participation, inclusion and ecosystem collaboration.

In #Uganda, we are testing arts and design based approaches that bring creative practitioners, urban refugees, women, youth, civic actors, communities and intermediary organisations together to explore new ways of engaging, collaborating and shaping civic conversations.

A key part of this is understanding the role of creative intermediaries.

Can creative intermediaries become spaces where creativity and civic action meet? Can they build the relationships, practices and approaches that make participation more accessible and meaningful?

Through our Pan African Community of Practice, we are creating space for creative intermediaries and ecosystem organisations to share experiences, learn from one another and build on what is emerging from this work.

Ultimately, we are exploring whether creative ecosystems can become part of the infrastructure through which civic participation happens.

🌍✨ Pacchar en la UNCCD COP17 ✨🌍

Hace unas semanas vivimos un importante capítulo de una historia que empezó en 2021, cuando decidimos apostar por el biochar con nuestras propias manos, quemando biomasa en pequeños huecos en el suelo, soñando con devolverle vida a la tierra. Ese sueño nos trajo hasta la conferencia de restauración de suelos más importante del mundo.

Ser parte de la @cop17mongolia como representantes de @pacchar.ec y del programa @ye_community es un honor profundo. Gracias al @g20landinitiative y a YECO por abrir espacios donde jóvenes ecoprenendedores podemos compartir, aprender y amplificar nuestras voces y negocios.

Lo más inspirador es estar rodeados de personas de todo el planeta que trabajan con la misma pasión por sanar los suelos, regenerar ecosistemas y proteger a comunidades y a la Madre Tierra. Somos una comunidad global unida por la convicción de que la restauración es posible.

En Mongolia tuvimos la oportunidad de defender el potencial del biochar latinoamericano, mostrar el trabajo de nuestras comunidades y participar en mesas redondas con líderes mundiales, científicos, inversionistas y formuladores de políticas. Todos reunidos por una causa común: curar la tierra que nos sostiene.

Este es un paso más en un bonito camino para caminarlo juntos. 🌱🔥🌎Hasta la próxima COP!

Last Friday, The international trade @internationaltradecentre partnering with the Ye community @ye_community_uganda organized its first event about creatives and it was all about connecting, engaging and networking and I have to say, this was a worth while community, I learnt about a lot and my key take away was to be funded, you have to be fundable, because funds can find you for your business and you shall misuse it so if you got 10 million today, what would you do with it ?
