The Resonant Frequencies of Buildings is a collective project of political and cultural reflections on sound and listening, which I curated and published. Typically, sound plays a secondary role in underscoring visual elements, but in this project, we challenge that notion. The ear is not merely an aid to the eye, nor does sound simply provide images with a sense of realism they lack when presented in silence.

This book brings together artists, writers, and musicians to explore conventional sound structures and the wide range of sensations and emotions they evoke. Most of the contributors are fellow artists and close friends.

The seventeen contributors offered their work, which has been transformed into various formats and media—poetry, drawings, collages, photography, and texts, including short essays and theses.

Anchored in the historical significance of the French mètre étalon—the platinum-iridium standard that defined the meter—we, together with Tianxu Liu @tianxu_liu reimagine measurement as a cultural construct reflecting humanity’s ongoing negotiation with order, perception, and physical reality during our research residency at L’AiR Arts in Paris.

Through low-frequency soundscapes and sculptural installations, the works engage the body’s sensory and visceral capacities, revealing how physical perception is affected by external forces, both measurable and intangible. The meter, in this context, becomes more than a unit of measurement—it is a metaphor for the ways we structure and experience the passage of time, the boundaries of space, and the shifting dynamics of the human condition.
