One thing I’m going to be working REALLY hard on this season is shrinking my strike zone.

One of my biggest strengths as a hitter has always been my ability to barrel up pitches outside of the zone. My barrel control allows me to do things with pitches that most hitters would struggle to make contact with, and while that’s a great tool to have in my toolbox, it can also be one of my biggest weaknesses.

If you’re like me, and you can hit those pitches, it doesn’t always mean we should. Sometimes, being able to make contact with a bad pitch convinces us to swing at a pitch we should have let go of. Before we know it, we’ve expanded our zone, gotten ourselves into a pitcher’s count, and made hitting harder than it needs to be.

The goal isn’t to lose the ability to hit the pitch outside the zone. It’s to become more disciplined about when we choose to attack it.

Something that’s been incredibly helpful for me lately is being around coaches who challenge me to think differently, make adjustments, and be intentional about the little things in my game. Implementing the things they’ve been having me work on has opened my eyes to areas where I can continue to grow, even after years of playing at the highest level. Sometimes, growth means getting better at what you already do well. Other times, it means recognizing that the things that have made you successful can also hold you back if you don’t know when to use them.

This season, it’s about being intentional, the goal is to make my strengths even stronger by eliminating the habits that sometimes get me into trouble.

Shoutout to my ump @abbyxbailey 😜

The strongest teams are built by people who choose to serve each other. Ask what your teammate needs, then have the courage and humility to provide it.

Reflection: How can you serve someone around you today?

How do MLB players test their bat path??

“The goal is to be able to say on any pitch, I don’t care what they throw me, I can deliver the club head and hit it hard…Matt Olson In his last two rounds in BP, Pull side nuke, pull side nuke, last pitch and he tried to hit 3rd base”

🔥 from @yesyestraining on on the ability to deliver the barrel and being able to pull the ball while still deliver the barrel oppo🗣️

One of our Original 4. Our last 9th Grader that started with us “Before” the rules changed. So this family has seen and been through a lot. A horrible knee injury at the WORST possible time didnt derail the dream, just delayed it a little and if I had to describe him in one word it would be “Tenacious”. NEVER Poor me or why me or wine wine wine.. KID JUST KEPT CHOPPING WOOD and came back early to help his HS team while wearing a Big clunky knee brace. Played most of the summer with that same Knee Brace b/c he was EARLY. He wasnt even supposed to be back yet but there he was… GRINDING. We followed along all over the S/E with his personal photographer (mom is AWESOME) giving me second by second updates that in many cases I was relaying directly to coaches and he got a lot of eyes on him. As we say here at EAS Recruiting #bespecific and he certainly was. Great future ahead at UAH. Education and Baseball. ✅ a lot of boxes. Proud of you Kyler and the lessons learned along this game that we love will last a lifetime. You are just getting started👊🏽
