Traversing Brisen, Glattigratt and Risttenstock.

The summer so far is extreme with high temperatures. Looking back at winter it was also special in many ways. On a weekend when @_tarasov and I hunted safe conditions due to strong winds, we set for a small traverse we spotted in the Outdoor Guide Engelberg (created by @danielperret and more). We went down the valley by train on lower altitude and took a gondola from Niederrickenbach up towards Haldigrat that we reached by foot. It’s one of those locations not as popular as Engelberg. Taking the small chair lift up to where we would start the tour, the lanscape combined with the light, wind and cold temperates (and lack of snow) gave us the feeling of being in Swedish mountains/fjäll. We considered to turn around when approaching the summit of Brisen due to extreme winds (that evening Engelberg had the strongest winds in Switzerland during the whole season) and we could barely walk up on the summit. However, we knew we would be sheltered from the wind going down towards Glattigratt. Tarasov painted big beutiful first tracks down there and we could also find fun safe skiing after the summit of Risettenstock. Being in the elements, suffering a bit from cold temperatures and having the mountain completely for ourselves - what more could you ask for? :)

One of those days I love, exploring the backyard of Engelberg with @oscarkrumlinde and @_tarasov . Taking the lift up to Jochstock and from there partially steep and exposed ski tour before the final climb/boot up to the summit of Reissend Nollen (3003 m). Beautiful decent down with the valley in sight. Requires a day with stable conditions.

Last weekend, as we enjoyed ourselves in the beautiful mountains, it felt strange to reflect on the current state of the world. There we were, shivering in the bitter cold wind and worrying about the condition of the glacier as we crossed it, while not far away, others were fighting for their freedom.

It is impossible not to feel deeply moved by the struggle for freedom unfolding in Europe right now. A totalitarian regime is waging war against the free people of Ukraine while also brutally oppressing the many Russians whose greatest dream is to experience their own freedom.

I was raised with a deep skepticism toward the regime that is now, more than ever, revealing its true nature. Because of that, I have the deepest admiration for those who have dedicated—or are dedicating—their lives to building a better future. But for those of us who fall short of such extraordinary commitment, I believe our small individual actions still matter. Whether it’s donating money, helping someone in need, or speaking out against those who enable tyranny, these efforts add up. At the very least, I hope—if only for my own sense of self-worth—that my own small actions have made a difference.

Slava Ukraini! Your courage marks the beginning of a tyrant’s inevitable downfall.
