Part of the identity we designed for ‘You’ve Got Mail!’, an exhibition at Melbourne Design Week 2026 curated by Athanasia Spathis & Sean Brickhill. Our identity started with a simple observation; leave a letterbox empty in Australia and ants and other crawlies move in. We made a self-inking ant stamp for Athanasia and Sean to work with, alongside a stamp for each of the exhibition’s core elements. The gridded exhibition image with ants uses the ant-stamp, each being individually placed by hand on a sheet, and then scanned in. The exhibition examined the letterbox, a familiar fixture of daily life that rarely draws a second glance. Featured artists were invited to reconsider the form and its purpose, and offer a bold new expression of its everyday use. BIRTH-DAYS STAND The project began with an email from Athanasia and Sean in Melbourne. It made us think again about mail as an old, physical way of communicating, something we often overlook in everyday life. Mail carries a physical object from one person to another. Birthday candles do much the same. Even after the flame is blown out, the candle remains as a small object, holding onto the occasion for which it was used. Birth-days Stand looks at the life of an object after its original use. We designed a simple aluminium plane with two 5 mm holes to bring saved birthday candles back into everyday use. The candles stand directly in the holes and can be lit again. Rather than giving an existing object a new function, the stand changes the way it is used. 90x90xH20mm Aluminium For @ygm.mdw Melbourne Design Week 2026 Curated by @athanasia.spathis & @brrrrrrrrick Photos 8 - 11 by @matthewmcquiggan

The exhibition investigated the letterbox, a familiar everyday object we rarely stop to notice. Quietly overlooked, it carries a subtle story of change. So yup, I started a Substack on a whim. It’s a bunch of my thoughts and musings and I had to start with Melbourne Design Week, which this year saw more than 100,000 visitors. If you’re curious, head to the link in my bio

Together with you, the Singing Leshy Stainless steel, 1300x1200x400 Shown @ygm.mdw with special thanks to @athanasia.spathis and @brrrrrrrrick for putting together this really lovely show. Also to Philip on the metalwork. Will now settle into a real garden, likely whispering sweet nothings to the postman in exchange for bills. Hopefully at least he’ll be smiling.

Fonds I, an artist's book I made for the mail art group exhibition 'You've Got Mail' at Melbourne Design Week. Fronds I is one of a series of artist’s books composed entirely of found paper materials gathered over time – receipts, packaging, notes, fragments and discarded paper. Each element functions simultaneously as page and content, forming a structure without authored imagery or text. The book is held together with a metal clip, allowing it to remain open-ended and continuously reconfigurable. Housed within a used, posted envelope, the work incorporates its own circulation, with stamps and markings acting as an additional layer of time. Letterpress printed cover in Univers 48pt with the help of Phil Treble @muttonsandnuts at @thinicepress 'You've Got Mail' was curated by @athanasia.spathis and @brrrrrrrrick @ygm.mdw

Today is the last day to go and visit @ygm.mdw a show exploring the humble letter box curated by @athanasia.spathis and I for the @ngvmelbourne design week 2026 This is my piece P.A.T ( parcel arrival terminal) Polished stainless steel, powder coated mild steel 310(H)×600(W)×600(D)mm 1 of 1 prototype Mail today is no longer what it once was. The days of postcards, love letters, newspapers, and monthly magazine subscriptions are largely gone. Instead, the postie now delivers parcels, vacuum cleaners, shoes, bulk household supplies, or late-night online purchases. Letters are rare, often sitting forgotten in a mailbox. In the near future, traditional mail may become a distant memory. P.A.T is designed with this future in mind. It is a secure vessel that protects parcels as a final shelter before they enter the home. Large enough to hold items like shoeboxes, records, food deliveries, or books, it features a domed lid to keep out rain. An anti-theft locking system allows access only to the homeowner and postal worker, using a code written on the parcel. P.A.T reduces theft and missed deliveries while offering a practical, visually appealing addition to the home. A huge thank you to @wang.eunjj who helped oversee and coordinate the fabrication of this piece in Seoul and then bring it over in her luggage. Photography by @matthewmcquiggan

Honored to be a part of You’ve got Mail 22-24 May for Melbourne design week. You’ve got mail! shines a spotlight on an everyday object we rarely stop to notice - the letterbox. Familiar to all and quietly overlooked, it carries a subtle story of change. We have invited Olivia Bossy, Kenny Yong Soo Son, Sean Brickhill, Nic Morgante, Belle Thierry, Georgia Weitenberg and Adam Goodrum, to reimagine the letterbox, each proposing a bold new expression of what a letterbox can be. Alongside them, 20+ International designers will contribute a piece of mail, the very content that gives the letterbox meaning. Injecting narrative and exchange into the space. 22 - 24 May 1/53 Bourke Street, Melbourne (above Mitty’s Newsagency) Curated by : @athanasia.spathis & @brrrrrrrrick Poster design by : @more__studio
