I am super excited to announce that my series Tiaki (To Take Care Of) as part of On Country: Photography from Australia opens at Immigration Museum on Friday October 16. Showing for the first time in Australia, On Country is a collection of contemporary photography by Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists.

Being ‘on Country’ is more than just being situated somewhere, it is about being shaped by that place, connected to it, and having a responsibility to care for it. This exhibition explores the complex and evolving relationship between Country, colonialism, community and identity.

Tiaki, meaning “to care for” in te reo Māori, traces the analogue residue of queer relationships across Naarm/Melbourne, moving through dance floors, protests, gatherings and quiet moments of tenderness. Together, the images form a non-linear constellation of friendship, kinship, romance and community, revealing the small acts of care, protection and solidarity that allow queer lives to survive and thrive.

Also featuring the work of Tony Albert and David Charles Collins, Ying Ang, Atong Atem,Sonja and Elisa Jane Carmichael, Maree Clarke, Michael Cook, Brenda L Croft,Liss Fenwick, AdamFerguson, Robert Fielding, The Huxleys, Ricky Maynard, Lisa Sorgini,Tace Stevens, wani toaishara and James Tylor. Curated by Brendan McCleary, Pippa Milne, Dr Kimberley Moulton and Elias Redstone.

This Exhibition was originally developed by PHOTO Australia and co-produced with theRencontres d’Arles.
