October 7 will forever be etched in our hearts.

We hold close the names and memories of every life brutally taken, honoring not only how they were lost, but how they lived, loved and touched the world.

As we move forward, we carry their memories with us. In our prayers, in our actions, in our unwavering commitment to one another and to the Jewish future.

In the face of unimaginable heartbreak, we come together as one Jewish people, bound by our shared history, strengthened by our unity and inspired by the hope that has carried us through generations.

We will remember their names. We will honor their lives. And we will carry their light forward.

Tonight we went to the Miami Federation’s Young Leadership Division’s event to commemorate October 7th. It was held at the Miami Holocaust Memorial - a tremendous tribute to the victims of the Shoah. The choice of location was intentional: October 7th marks the deadliest single day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

The organizers creating a sacred space so we, the attendees, could share our own stories. Hearing from person after person about how their lives have changed - one person made Aliyah, another person had a career change to now work for the Jewish community, some lost friends, others gained new ones. Where we were when we first heard the news - one person shared she was in Dubai and her tour guide said he could not guarantee her safety so she should put away her Magen David necklace. Another shared that she was raised Christian but had a Jewish mother and in adulthood connected to her Judaism - and then found out about the attack and felt pain; she felt the spark of Jewish peoplehood.

Each of us has a story - the moment we realized it was something more than just the “usual” domestic terror that happens in Israel, what it was like for us to visit Israel since that day. How we gathered in fear, how we gathered again in resilience and hope.

Remember your story. Write it down. Capture these memories. Seal it in an envelope. I can’t tell you when you’ll need to read it, but you will know when that time is.

Oseh Shalom Bimormav - may God bring peace both above and below so we never know war. One day, maybe one day, Arab and Jew can live peacefully, side by side.
Hashem Yikom Damo - may each of the fallen be uplifted in their cherished memories.
Am Yisrael Chai - now and always, the nation of Israel lives!

One of the most meaningful parts of being an artist is being able to create something that goes beyond what you see on a canvas.

Art can hold memory. It can tell stories. It can honor people, preserve moments, and give us a way to express what words sometimes can’t.

These pieces were created with that purpose 🤍

October 7, 2023. Approximately 1,200 people killed and 251 taken hostage. Today marks 3 years since that day.

Today, I’m using my art to remember the lives that were lost, honor the survivors and families forever changed, and make sure their stories and memories continue to live on.

This is why creating art with meaning will always be such an important part of what I do.

We remember🤍

We just closed out a big week of NDJS service and learning in Miami. 🌊

It started virtually, with Rabbi Ed Rosenthal from Repair the Sea leading 12 of us through Jewish text and reflection on our connection to water. That set up the why before we hit the sand.

Then on Sunday, 100 volunteers gathered at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, one of the only beaches in Miami-Dade County that Black Americans were legally permitted to use during segregation. Rabbi Jason Cook from Temple Beth Am opened with a learning session, and volunteers carried pieces of Jewish text with them along the beach, sitting with the tension between “fix” and “witness” as we walked.

We picked up 103 lbs of trash. But this week was never just about the cleanup. It was about showing up for a place, its history, and each other.

Grateful to Rabbi Ed Rosenthal and the team at Repair the Sea, Rabbi Jason Cook and Temple Beth Am, and Lillian and the team at Seakeepers, plus everyone else who partnered with us to make this week possible. 💙
