On the road to #COP31, the Australian Embassy in Cairo hosted a Climate Café and MIKTA Panel Discussion in partnership with @ylefoundation_official , bringing together representatives of the five MIKTA countries, climate experts, policymakers and youth.

The event opened with remarks by Australia’s Ambassador-Designate to Egypt, Joel McGregor, followed by a keynote address by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Egypt, as Türkiye prepares to host COP31 in Antalya this November.

Discussions explored climate finance, the clean energy transition, oceans and rising sea levels, and the role of climate diplomacy and youth in advancing climate action.

As President of the COP31 negotiations and Chair of MIKTA for 2026, Australia is committed to strengthening international cooperation and advancing ambitious climate action.

I had the pleasure of attending an inspiring event organized by YLE, hosted at the residence of the Australian Ambassador, with the participation of representatives from the Turkish and Indonesian embassies and the Korean Embassy in Egypt. 🌍

The event brought together important conversations around climate action, including climate adaptation and mitigation, access to climate finance, renewable energy and a just transition, youth leadership in climate policy, ocean conservation, climate and health, and food security through sustainable agriculture.

It was a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives, learn from different experiences, and reflect on the role young people can play in shaping a more sustainable future.

Climate action is not just a global responsibility; it’s a shared commitment that starts with awareness, collaboration, and meaningful action. 🌱
