✨A Night to Remember, Together✨

You guys did it! After an unforgettable evening at our 16th Annual Korean American Story Gala, we reached our $200,000 fundraising goal!

Thank you to everyone who made the night so special and helped us continue our mission of preserving, sharing, and amplifying Korean American stories. Your generosity ensures our community’s voices will continue to be heard for generations to come.

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible hosts and performers who made the evening shine — Emcee Vivian Lee (@vivlee88), Live-Ask Host Kathleen Kim (@kafode), an electrifying performance from Hana Vu (@hanavuuu), and of course our Trailblazer Honorees; Ali Ahn (@aliahn), Hollee McGinnis (@hollee.mcginnis), and Jaeki Cho (@jaekicho). There was not a dry eye in the audience!

A heartfelt thank you to our gala sponsors, Economic Diversity Initiative sponsors, and in-kind sponsors — your generosity makes our work possible and helps us continue sharing the stories that connect and inspire our community.

Our deepest gratitude to co-founders HJ Lee and Theresa Choh-Lee, whose vision and dedication continue to inspire everything we do.

And a heartfelt thank you to our staff and volunteers, whose hard work and commitment made the evening a true success.

It’s not too late to support our mission — visit the link in bio 🔗 or koreanamericanstory.org/donate to give a gift that will last for generations to come ❤️

Stay tuned for portraits and full event photos on our website and Facebook page soon!

#teabookpairing "I'm Laughing Because I'm Crying" by Youngmi Mayer (@ymmayer) with Liu Bao Cha from @tenyeetea One day, my TT FYP showed me a post of someone reading out her Substack post and I was intrigued. Saw she had also written a memoir, borrowed it from NLB (there is only ONE copy in circulation which I will be returning soon FYI) and fell in love with her writing within the first chapter.

The author Youngmi Mayer is a stand-up comedian and podcast host and she has led and still lives an extremely colourful life. The way she portrays it is brazen and funny with doses of vulnerable rage, scathing commentary, and chaotic good intentions.

In witnessing her timeline through this book, I knew I had to pair it with a quirky Liu Bao Cha I'd recently acquired from Penang. It's "officially" aged from 2000 but also has 1970s stems to give it more complexity. So essentially, a brew of blended memories, thick and mellow, which is what this unforgettable read feels like.

"Do you know what happens if you laugh while you are crying? Hair grows out of your butthole."
