Trauma-informed yoga is a therapeutic approach to yoga that prioritizes emotional safety, personal choice and body empowerment over traditional posture perfection. Key Principles and Practices ♥️ • Postures selection: avoiding 'vulnerable' or 'sexual' poses • Invitational Language • No Hands On Adjustments • Open Environment: intentionally curated spaces • Introspection: focus on embodiment Benefits ✨ • Nervous System Regulation: It addresses how trauma disrupts the mind-body connection, helping participants shift out of chronic hyperarousal (fight-or-flight, anxiety) or hypoarousal (numbness, dissociation). • Agency and Consent: Because trauma often strips individuals of control, the practice explicitly hands choices back to the student. • PTSD and Anxiety Reduction: Clinical research has shown it can help reduce post-traumatic stress and emotional dysregulation. • Reconnection: Helps individuals safely re-associate with physical sensations that may have felt unsafe or numbed out after trauma. It's YFAM's 10th birthday....10 years of this incredible non profit organization serving the Santa Cruz County community with accessible, trauma informed yoga & meditation practices! For over three years I've had the pleasure of teaching for Yoga For All Movement in middle and high school alternative education classes as well as residential & community mental health spaces. Being able to share yoga, meditation and sound healing, supporting young people and adults to cultivate more presence, slow down and breathe mindfully, and meet themselves wherever they are ~ body, heart mind, emotions~ with compassion is such an honor and a gift! I love witnessing how we can all come together through these incredible healing practices and turn towards inner awareness where we find the space to listen more deeply, and strengthen our relationship to honouring what the body needs, be it stillness, rest, movement in each present moment. Yoga is powerful and far reaching~ for our selves, our families and relationships..with the environment, animals, communities, and the wider scope within our nations & worldwide...a path towards social justice, equity, universal compassion, care, love, and peace. Last year YFAM served over 6,000 students and the numbers are growing! Shoutout to our devoted ED Katie Davidson! We have over 30 teachers offering 26 trauma informed classes every week in schools, foster youth programs, senior centers, mental health support centers & more!! That's something to celebrate!! Come join us downtown Santa Cruz tomorrow Saturday 10/10/26 to practice asana with amazing teachers & our board president & beautiful yoga teacher & mentor Hannah Muse, chant with Bryn's heart led Kirtan, sing & dance with DJ Drez & Marti Nikko, chill in the zen tent & share the beautiful energy all day! And I'll be guiding a sweet sound bath at 12:15 with my dear friends Lola and Justin...bring your friends! It's free and all are welcome! Come as you are. All the info in the slides! Oh! And please visit our website to donate to our fundraiser to help us keep it all going & grow our meaningful impact! Sending heaps of love! May all beings be happy, free, and safe. Thank you 🙏💕🪷

I want to share something special with you about the past 10+ years of my life. 🥹 In addition to all the good stuff (raising a family, teaching what's saved my life, etc) x all the heartbreaking stuff (anthropogenic climate change, genocides & wars, increased authoritarianism & inequities, many other causes for despair) for the past decade I've steadily devoted a portion of my energy, time, and LOVE for the Yoga for All Movement (YFAM). At the heart of it for me? That every single person - no matter where you come from or what you've done - is worthy of a well cared-for heart + nervous system, a second chance, a sense of belonging, and healing that holds the possibility of greater empathy, embodied awareness, and agency - pathways that may have never been accessible or introduced before.🪞 Although the work towards equity, justice and accessibility has not alway been easy - the decision to dedicate my life force to YFAM has been one of the easiest! A bit of my YFAM history: - 14 years ago: organizing folks to help teach pregnant & postpartum mamas in transitional housing (shout out to @maryjayyyyyy, @yoga_with_abbie + many others) - 11 years ago: YFAM visionary @shanielovesayes (who was herself sharing yoga w/ incarcerated folks) approaching me to join forces, asking me to be Executive Director (I declined and offered founding board member instead 😉) - to now, 10 years after @yogaforallmovement was born - we currently teach 26 classes every single dang week ‼️ in Santa Cruz county and have over 30 dedicated trauma-sensitive teachers showing up for the good work. 🥹 YES, we can co-create a life-affirming world for each other. 🫂 This month is our 10-year anniversary. Watching this seedling grow into a nourishing forest has been one of my favorite things in life. 🌳 Last year alone, we served 6,709 students. Come celebrate in communion! SATURDAY ~ Yoga for All Day Yoga in the Streets: Collective Change Starts HERE 12-4:30pm October 10 ~ celebrate 10 years of YFAM with free festival downtown Santa Cruz: live music @djdrez, yoga, kids zone, kirtan, sound healing, prizes and more! {See my ps👇 below} #yfam #justice #equity #lovelife
