✌️ OAR on this Mindful Monday✌️

▫️Happy International Day of Peace. In a world that feels wildly chaotic, difficult, unpredictable, and more, a day like today espousing peace seems like it misses the mark. However the one thing I remind my littles, college students, my own children and the adults I teach is the following:

➡️ peace begins with you ⬅️

▫️We CANNOT control the many outside influences and forces that are beyond our control. But we CAN find peace within and spread that outward as much as humanly possible. This weekend I got to attend OAR’s concert at Jones Beach with some of my fav humans and the lyrics to their song “Peace”reminded us of this - “I want Love. I want Us. I want You. I want Me. I want Peace.”

▫️We need peace, but let’s begin with us first. Take a pause for peace today….and maybe a listen 🎧 to OAR for a mindful moment today.

Happy Pride. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

This year, it felt more protest than celebration. But the celebrations have also felt like their own form of protest. Celebrating queer love and queer families this year has felt especially heightened and emotional.

It’s a hard truth that we live in a country where the president would rather see us dead than thriving and living life to the fullest. And if you think that’s hyperbole, look no further than his administration shutting down the LGBTQ suicide hotline…during #PrideMonth no less. Trans rights. Family protections. Equal protections under the law. It’s all at stake. But we are here and we have always been here, and we will always be here, whether they like it or not.

At the same time, I have never been more proud of us. Our resiliency. Our fearlessness. Our strength. I love us. And I will never stop fighting for our right to exist.

Christmas 2024:
As we end the year, I want to share a moment that put something in perspective. While getting my hair done, I was sharing with my friend that my cousins and me have about 3838384 text threads. I laughed at how ridiculous it can be for your phone to buzz continuously through the day. He didn’t laugh. He instead said “I wish I had that”. In that moment, I stopped laughing because I realized what I’ve grown used to is a blessing. A strong, supportive, amazing family.

Andrew and I were blessed to spend our 5th Christmas together… but this was our first with BOTH sides of our family. From our annual pajama party, my Mom and I hosting our annual mother-daughter tea, a beautiful wedding of my big sister, Boxing Day with my Lovely family… we are truly blessed to be surrounded by so much love.

So as we enter into 2025, remember what matters most. It’s not the car, the bag, the promotion, the title, it’s having family and friends who love you, support you, and text you 5 million times just to show you that you are a part of something great!
And I’m reminded that God has been in the midst of this year. He is in the peaks and the valleys. And I’m am grateful 🙏🏽

Family Reunion Cruise - Part ✌🏽. I am blessed to be a part of a family who willingly wants to spend a week together! From our first family cruise in 2001 to now, our family has beautifully grown! Sharing time and building memories is a gift that cannot be bought. Thank you, Lord, for this family of mine 🙏🏽
