This place is the best to the best in New York City if you’re looking for a potato cane or a cheese cane that pretty much taste like a slice of cheesecake if anything I would say it’s better unfortunately they don’t make the cherry lime Ricky or the egg creams anymore, which I wish they would bring back, but this is one of the best establishments. It’s been open over 100 years who knows how much longer they’ll be around they’ve never franchised so just go there go there and support this family because this is one of the older families in New York City that actually cares about the quality of their food that they’re giving their people they’re not skimping on the quality the quantity or their service I want to thank them for being a part of New York City and giving all this great food for us to try

For the fourth stop on Daniella Rabbani's Jewish New York tour, we’re heading to @yonahschimmel, where the story of the knish begins with a Romanian rabbi selling potato and kasha knishes from a pushcart in 1890.
ㅤ
What started as an affordable, filling food for Eastern European Jewish immigrants became a Lower East Side staple and a lasting piece of New York food history. @daniellarabbani digs into the story behind one of the city’s most iconic Jewish foods.

Yesterday for my dear friend @sarahjaeleiber’s birthday, we went on a JEWISH FOOD CRAWL on the lower east side!!! My dream come true!!! Come along for the journey 🥯
✨ Bagel with the works from @kossars (and not pictured but I also got some bialys to bring home to my fam because they are the BEST)

✨Cinnamon rugelach from Moishe’s Kosher Bakery

✨Chocolate babka from Moishe’s Kosher Bakery

✨ @pickleguys (omg new fav place I love it here)

✨ @pickleguys New Pickle! I didn’t know about new pickles!! They’re like a step below Half Sours, which are my favorite. I got a quart of em plus this bonus pickle! Also tried a few, including pickled mangoes?! Yum.

✨ @yonahschimmel Knish Bakery!! So cool to go to a place that my great grandparents probably went to. So much history and love in these knishes!

✨ @yonahschimmel Mushroom Knish

✨ @yonahschimmel Chocolate Cheese Knish - did not know about SWEET knishes?! Kinda like a cheese blintz filling. WOW.

✨ Bday queen @sarahjaeleiber with her candles in a knish!! All is right in the world 🎂

Also an honorable mention to @katzsdeli, which we sadly struck from the list due to the unsurprisingly loooong line. But we love u 🥲

summer rhythms in new york 🪎
more snaps from june/july/august walks! a lot of color contrasts in this set, yellows & reds & the softest blues. people stopping for cones, always in motion. days where you take minimum two showers just to rinse off the sweat and humidity. there’s nowhere like this city in this summer.

Summer’s almost over, but the Scavenger Hunt isn’t! 🔎

There are only a few days left to take on The Great New York Scavenger Hunt. The hunt ends Labor Day, so grab your family and explore the Lower East Side as you search for PJ Library books hidden at nine iconic locations. Each book is connected to the story of the spot where you’ll find it.

Can you find all nine? Download our kid-friendly map and learn more at pjlibrary.org/nycscavengerhunt. If you spot a book, take a photo and tag or DM @pjlibraryinnewyork.

Happy hunting!

Have you ever had a knish? It’s an Eastern European snack, made of a savory filling wrapped in dough. Popular flavors are potato, meat and cheese. We stopped into @yonahschimmel for a few to bring home. Two potato and two kasha (buckwheat). They live up to the hype 💯
