Most surfers mess up their stance in one of these three areas when going for frontside barrels. Here is the breakdown of the most common mistakes and how to fix them:

1. Back Arm Placement
The Mistake: Throwing your back arm forward because you think it gains speed. This forces you into a low line and gets you crushed by the lip.
The Fix: Keep your back hand close to or touching the wave face. This keeps your body tight to the wall so you can avoid getting hit by the lip.

2. The Back Knee
The Mistake: Leaving your back knee untucked. This puts too much weight on the back foot, which will cause you to lose your clean line through the tube.
The Fix: Tuck your back knee forward. This puts most of your weight on your front foot and angles your hips down the line so you can maintain your line through the barrel and actually make it out.

3. Foot Placement
The Mistake: Standing all the way back on your tail pad. This slows you down inside the barrel and causes your board to waver off your line.
The Fix: Choke up your stance. Stand closer to the middle of the surfboard for maximum speed and to maintain that solid line through the tube.

Dear Oz,
To the scrolls of legends, landscapes, skunks, and scores… adventures, beatdowns, blessings, and uncanny encounters that all seemed to surround my every turn, I thank you from the core. I am not sure where to begin when trying to describe my gratitude for these cherished experiences and more importantly the people involved in each one. My mind swings from the contentful dialogues and the purest humors to crystalline views that could make a corpse blink an eye ‘n crack a grin. Never in life have I felt so at home so far away from my origin on this earth. Raising a glass to all the people and places involved in the best year of my life thus far 🍻 Will be counting down too soon for more
