Exploring the edges to find the centre 🌀
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Our NDAC AGM is tomorrow evening (Thursday, February 19th) at 7pm, online via Zoom, and we’ve engaged a talented group of local performers to deliver the event in true NDAC style. 🔹shayna-adjowa jones (she/they) is a multi-disciplinary spoken word artist specializing in Afro-diasporic folklore. As an award-winning actor, spoken word poet, folklorist and playwright, shayna-adjowa has written and performed for theatre companies, festivals and schools across Canada. Find her @wearestoryfolk 🔹Jaymes is a clown school graduate and plumber’s apprentice. He likes to find his “centre” by exploring his “edges”. He has performed sketch comedy at the Capitol Theatre, toured across North America as rapper Young Braised, and written some ads. 🔹Jackie Atkins is a Nelson, BC based filmmaker, writer, and comedian drawn to the specific and the strange. A head writer of the Bell Media funded Southern Interior and director of the documentary Swabber, Jackie crafts character driven stories exploring community, humour, and resilience. 🔹Lhasa Miranda-Coupal is a young, vibrant artist who first was immersed in the diverse worlds of music and dance in Toronto. She has performed on many stages in Nelson and is no stranger to the Capitol Theatre. She played Matilda in her first Summer Youth Program production and continues to perform in musical theater whenever she can. You may have seen her in Chorapalooza, or the Pantomime. Maybe it was at a block party performance or ArtWalk. Lhasa brings her love of music and community to every performance, whether she’s dancing in a Dance Fusion showcase or singing with Corazón and Solstice. We will also be joined by Rob Fahie of Pinnacle Accountants and Advisors and NDAC President Hannah DeBoer-Smith! This event is free for all current NDAC members. flashback to May when myself and this crew of hilarious and inspiring people crushed the Nelson Sketch Comedy Revue 2 in two nights at the beloved @capitolnelsonbc after two months of dreaming, writing, and rehearsing. I’m endlessly grateful to get the opportunity to be creative, funny, and challenged by projects like this. thanks to @weirdhart and @reallycoolproductions for bringing the weird to the people. Shelby was the stage manager for this show, and we would have been lost without her! until next time... ✨ - R. #sketchcomedy #comedy #funnypeople #nelson #nelsonbc #keepnelsonweird

That's a FRICKEN (Elon Musk) WRAP! Last Tuesday, we wrapped our second and final show of the second Nelson Sketch Comedy Revue at the @capitolnelsonbc and what a ride it was! To the cast, crew, and tech team: you are absolute legends. You troubleshoot in real-time, you push yourselves to grow, and you make the chaos look calm. To our audiences (especially the ones dancing during the transitions) you keep us sharp, silly, and aiming to top ourselves every time! Thank you thank you thank you. -- Someone asked is there enough material to do a third Sketch Comedy Revue? HELL YEAH, BABY! If you’ve never been to the show, here’s the deal: Nelson is in the name not because every sketch is about Nelson, but because it’s all created right here, in Nelson, by Kootenay (..somewhat) locals. We get together and write about anything that makes us laugh, rehearse it for months and throw it on stage hoping it makes you laugh too. Big ups to @jora.digital for capturing the chaos so beautifully. Big ups to @nelsonstudio88 for the rehearsal space and encouragement. Take a class there its wonderful! (Lastly, here's a pro tip: If you have the chance to make comedy with friends, do it).
