POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We said goodbye to our beloved Ruby yesterday, who at the age of 13 succumbed to cancer. There were two lumps found in her stomach and wing. Unbeknownst to us, she stopped eating a few days ago, and was slowly starving herself. It was only on her last day, i noticed that she would look at her food longingly, but could not get herself to eat it.

I found her two days ago with her legs in the air, too weak to stand herself up. That's when I knew that she was seriously ill.

We adopted Ruby around 11 years ago, when she was only 18 months old. Having been forcefully bred into existence, she faced a life of emotional and physical torture, as a baby. The end of her beak was amputated with a hot blade, to prevent her from squabbling with her fellow sisters while they were cramped into a shed with thousands of other baby slaves.

Within a few months, she started laying her eggs on the daily. If she was living freely, she would have broken and eaten them, as a way of replenishing the calcium and protein she was losing in the process. Instead, her enslavers stole every single egg of hers, and sold them to supermarkets for profit. Desecrating her reproductive system in the process.

Thankfully, she was rescued before her death sentence at 18 months. Which is when we met her for the first time - emotionally broken and physically near-death.

She started off as the smallest and the weakest of the group - however, over the next 12 years of life, she battled and won against several health conditions while becoming a leader for the others we rescued later. She showed them the way and always made sure to call them when she found random food in our garden. And she was always patient with me when I cuddled her.

We will always love you, dear Ruby. May you peacefully transition to your next journey 🙏

If her life story resonates with you, please go vegan. Their bodies belong to them - they were never ours to use. Each one is someone's baby or someone's mother. And they feel deeply - joy, sorrow, boredom, fear, ecstasy, safety, pain and terror. And they crave freedom, just like us.

Please make the connection.🌍
