Very excited to be checking in with the amazing @ifeoluwa_1234 for tonight’s edition of “Tears In The Club” on @rinsefrance.

I’ll be coming through with an hour mix of drummed out club heat to cap off the weekend.
Starting off melodic, before increasing the BPM + veering off into weirder/Sci-Fi territory as I go🛸
Tune in at 19:00 (CET)❗️

Big thanks + love to Ifeoluwa 🤎

Stories from our Programme // 💬 @annehistorical

In November 2020, myself and 9 artists working across visual art, music production and experimental sound performance and installation entered a six-month collaborative conversation and exchange structured by a series of what we called 'passes'. We relied largely on digital infrastructures to send material from sound samples to field recordings and new compositions to visual matter such as scores, drawings, notations, mix tapes. Where it was possible, physical passes also took place by post and improvised collaborative in-person sessions happened in studios, on walks and bike rides.

This was an interdisciplinary collaboration of diverse forms of sonic practice that attempted to reinhabit the somatic flows of a human and nonhuman nervous system during the covid-19 pandemic, where our experiences, intimacies and forms of sociality remain increasingly mediated by digital platforms. In this period overdetermined by digital flows and networks, and with no foreseeable return to forms of a pre-pandemic social world, we returned to analogue sound formats and the embodied act of listening, not as a refusal, but as an attempted re-inhabitation of an expanded idea of embodiment.

The "Proximal Distal" project process has been recorded in the physical forms of a double-vinyl and publication, which will now be shared through a series of site-specific 'in person' listening sessions or situations constructed by each artist in their own context.

The first listening session and launch takes place in Johannesburg next week.
📍 10.11.2021
Victoria Yards, 16 Viljoen Street, Lorentzville
6pm for 6:30pm

"Proximal Distal" was co-produced by the joining room & Nothing to Commit Records
The core artist group comprised Bettina Malcomess/Anne Historical, Bhavisha Panchia, Nandele Maguni, gretchen blegen, Simnikiwe Buhlungu, Andrei Van Wyk/Healer Oran, Dion Monti/Lost lover, Chad Cordeiro, Nathaniel Sheppard III and Francis Burger.

Over a few months in late 2020 and early 2021, Bettina Malcomess/Anne Historical, Bhavisha Panchia, Nandele Maguni, gretchen blegen, Simnikiwe Buhlungu, Andrei Van Wyk/Healer Oran, Dion Monti/Lost lover, Chad Cordeiro, Nathaniel Sheppard III and myself passed ideas, sounds, images and other snippets to one another through long zooms, google drive trades, and the post.

Joe Namy, Vivian Cacurri, and Joseph Kamaru/KMRU joined us for some of these sessions, leaving anecdotes from their practices to pop up among our longer conversations.

This series of passes or exchanges made up the project, ‘proximal distal’, an aspiring anorgan/anarchive to be shared physically as a double-vinyl and publication (all gathered and folded up in fabric prints made with Sara-Aimee Verity of edition verso); and digitally on bandcamp. Both will happen next week 10 November, more details and links soon.

Proximal Distal was co-produced by the joining room & Nothing to Commit Records, and was supported and made possible by the #ProHelvetia ‘Breathing Space’ programme. The records were cut by Contour Vinyl, and the publications printed by Law Print, Johannesburg.

We have actively been involved in reporting on the SA music scene. In addition, we have introduced audiences to artists directly through their music with Bubblegum Club mixes and being commissioned to design album artwork. Here are a few you may recognise
