Polk County Championships

VCA XC took the county meet by storm. This was the first time the kids got to run in some cool temperatures, and as I’ve been saying, when the temps drop, the times follow suit. Couple that with the discipline and grit that we see during our workouts, we knew it would be a big day. Here’s some of the big wins:
* Varsity Boys placed 6th place out of 15 teams (best finish in school history) and had their fastest team average all season by over 25 seconds (19:05). They also had five boys under the 20 minute mark. All around, this was a record breaking race for the boys.
* Collectively, the team dropped 2,540 seconds from the last time they ran at Holloway on the 2nd.
* The JV Girls finished 3rd out of 6 teams with a new fastest team average of 26:55. They also put two girls on the podium, Ellie Maddox and Lauren Molzof, placing 5th and 11th.
* 72% of the runners ran a PR on a challenging course.
* Here are the PRs: Michael Wilkinson - 80 seconds, Judah Litton - 31, Tysen Molzof - 82, Brady Plott - 104, Arlis Kelley - 468, Ellie Maddox - 94, Lauren Molzof - 112, Linah Gonzalez - 2, Alexa Ballard - 233, Madison Dudziak, 89, Arianna Schmidt - 54, Coryn Chaisson - 184, Alayna Ballard - 119

Things are falling into place before Storm XC takes on the District meet in Largo, FL on Wednesday morning, November 4th. Just 10 days away. Both teams have their sights on qualifying for the regional meet. Show some love to these runners who have worked so so hard.

FLRunners Invitational

Storm XC took on the toughest course yet with the roughest race conditions and largest field they will face all season. Even though the times didn’t reflect their effort, they tested their mental fortitude by racing in the rain, mud, mugginess, and bugginess. And even yet, the team still walked away with some big wins:
* Senior, birthday girl, Ryleigh McInnes placed 25th out of 261 runners.
* Varsity Boys finished 10th place out of 29 teams and had the lowest 1-5 spread in school history (1:29)!
* Michael Wilkinson has PRed in every meet this year. This time, he dropped 2 seconds. Judah Litton also dropped 5 seconds, Tysen Molzof - 46, Paul Groves - 364, Lauren Molzof - 22, Alexa Ballard - 9.
* Victory fielded a Varsity Girls roster for the first time in school history!

Varsity Boys are heading up to Georgia next weekend to race at the Atlanta Classic, but you can catch Storm XC back in action Saturday AM, October 24th back at Holloway Park.

This morning, 20 of our runners came out to support @take.heart.africa in their annual @leth10k5k ! Not only did they represent Storm XC by cleaning house in the awards, they were known for their love and support for one another! As soon as each runner crossed the finish line, they ran back to encourage and pace others as they also approached the end. Proud of them for being more than just stellar athletes…Christlike teammates.

The 2026 season for VCA XC is well under way. The team has been practicing through the summer, and they are starting to see all that hard work pay off. We are three meets into the season, so here’s the photo dump from:

* 8/22 - Ragin’ Storm at Mary Help of Christians in Tampa
* 8/29 - George Whitmire at Lake Region High in Eagle Lake
* 9/5 - Parker Valby at East Lake High in Tarpon Springs

Significant improvements have already been made, and records are being broken left and right. Senior, Ryleigh McInnes has individually medaled in her last two meets and is currently 3 seconds from the school record. The Varsity boys are currently the fastest team in school history. They broke that record last week by a slim margin of an average time of 7 seconds faster than the previous mark set in 2024. Today, they smashed it by going another 30 seconds faster (team average - 19:31). Can’t wait to see them keep dropping times. The roster has now grown to 21 kids. Catch the Storm back in action as they run in the Take Heart 5K near the Lake Mirror Promenade next Saturday at 7:30am!
