You did not heal the way you expected.⁣ ⁣ Not through force. Not through a single moment that changed everything. Not by fighting what hurt until it finally stopped.⁣ ⁣ You healed the way water moves. Slowly. Patiently. Taking only what needed to go and leaving behind what was always true about you.⁣ ⁣ What remains is not emptiness. It is clarity. The version of you that the tide uncovered was never lost. It was simply waiting beneath the weight of what you had been carrying.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about what your healing has taken from you gently, over time. And what it has left behind.⁣ ⁣ The Tide That Healed You, on the healing that arrives quietly, without force.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. There is a question worth asking yourself today.⁣ ⁣ Are you stable? Are you surviving? Because I know the waves came without warning. I know you kept giving to hands that never earned what you offered. I know how much that cost you.⁣ ⁣ But you kept beating. Through every breaking. Through every morning you woke up still carrying what should have been put down long ago.⁣ ⁣ It is time now. Not to harden. Not to close. Just to let go of what was never yours to keep carrying, and beat towards something kinder.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write a letter to your own heart. What do you need to say to it today? What has it been carrying that it is finally allowed to put down?⁣ ⁣ The Heart That Kept Beating, on the heart that survived everything and is still open.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. You did not want a love that burned.⁣ ⁣ Not after everything the last one cost you. Not after learning to survive the heat of someone who called intensity devotion and chaos connection.⁣ ⁣ You wanted something different. Water to your flame. Calm to your chaos. Someone who met you where you were and didn't ask you to be smaller to fit.⁣ ⁣ That is not too much to want. That is exactly what love is supposed to feel like.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about what you want love to feel like now. Not what you have been taught to accept. What you actually need.⁣ ⁣ The Love That Calms, on the love you are still learning to believe you deserve.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. You are not only what you lost. You are the threads that held. The quiet self that stayed through every season that tried to unravel you. The voice that kept writing even when it had nothing left to say but the truth. Before the love that cost you. Before the version of yourself that learned to disappear. There were threads. Woven through you. Composed of light. And they never left. You wrote yourself back into place, not all at once, but line by line. And what you found was always there. If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about the thread inside you that never broke. What is it made of? And where does it lead you now? Part 2⁣- On 28th June, I joined the amazing Ruth O'Reilly live in the studio on All FM to mark one year of Rising From Despair. Ruth asked me a question I had never been asked before. Did I write the poems in the order I experienced these emotions, or did I arrange them later to create a journey for the reader?⁣ ⁣ The truth is, the journey was already there. I didn't have to arrange it. It was my life unfolding in real time.⁣ ⁣ Rising From Despair moves through pain, anger, hope, and healing because that is the order it happened to me. Nothing was rearranged for effect. Nothing was sequenced after the fact.⁣ ⁣ What surprised even me, looking back, is how some of the earliest poems were unlocked through writing exercises. My editor Emma once sent me three images and said simply, your homework is to write a poem using these. Trapped came from that exercise.⁣ ⁣ Sometimes the most honest writing comes when we are not trying to write at all. We are just trying to survive, and the words find their own way out.⁣ ⁣ If Rising From Despair has been on your list, now is the perfect time to order your copy and discover the journey for yourself.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. Some recoveries don't announce themselves.⁣ ⁣ There is no single moment. No dramatic turn. No day when everything suddenly feels different.⁣ ⁣ There is just the quiet, slow accumulation of surviving. Of carrying what broke you without being broken by it. Of waking up one morning and realising you are slightly further from the ground than you were before.⁣ ⁣ You rose. Not all at once. Not the way the stories tell it. But steadily, softly, the way a cloud finds its way to open sky.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about the moment you realised you were slightly further from the ground than before. What had shifted? And what had you carried to get there?⁣ ⁣ The Rising, on the quiet, unhurried return to yourself.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. You were not needy. You were asking for what love is supposed to give. Presence. Consistency. Someone who chose you not just when it was easy, but when it cost them something. That is not a lot to ask. That is what you deserved. But somewhere along the way, you were made to feel that wanting those things made you difficult. Demanding. Too much. They were never the problem. You were never the problem. You are allowed to hold both, the knowing that you deserved more, and the exhaustion of having asked for it. If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about what you deserved that you never received. And whether you are ready to ask for it again. 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. Some barriers do not look like barriers.⁣ ⁣ They look like loyalty. Like duty. Like the way things have always been done. They keep you in not through force, but through expectation, through silence, through the slow erosion of what you once believed you were allowed to want.⁣ ⁣ You did not see the gate for what it was. Not at first. You learned to move within its limits and called that living.⁣ ⁣ But something in you never stopped knowing there was more. And quietly, without announcement, you found your way through.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about the gate that held you. What did it look like? And what did it cost you to finally walk through?⁣ ⁣ The Gates That Held You, on the freedom that was always waiting.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. On Sunday I joined the amazing Ruth O'Reilly live in the studio on All FM to mark one year of Rising From Despair. Here's me reading Cracks Filled With Gold.⁣ ⁣ You are not less for having cracked. The places where you broke are not proof of weakness. They are where the light found its way in. Where the gold was poured.⁣ ⁣ Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold, teaches us that what has been broken is not ruined. It is made more beautiful by the repair. You are that.⁣ ⁣ Every poem in Rising From Despair comes with a journalling prompt, so you can begin your own healing journey alongside mine.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about the cracks in your life — the places where you have been hurt or broken. How have these experiences made you stronger or more beautiful?⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. Some things do not heal by being forgotten.⁣ ⁣ They heal by being named. By being held. By being turned slowly, carefully, into something you can carry with dignity rather than shame.⁣ ⁣ You did not lose yourself completely. Even in the breaking, something in you was already gathering the pieces. Looking for the thread. Finding the words.⁣ ⁣ Poetry was never just writing. It was the needle. And you were never just broken. You were always becoming.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Write about the words that helped you gather the pieces. What did you finally say that began to stitch you back together?⁣ ⁣ The Art I Chose To Wear, on the healing that happens when you stitch yourself back together with words.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers. Not every cage has visible walls.⁣ ⁣ Sometimes you stay long after you've outgrown the space. Not because you chose to. But because someone made you believe that leaving would make you the villain. That your discomfort was the problem. That surviving was the same as living. It was not.⁣ ⁣ Freedom does not always begin with a door. Sometimes it begins with a decision. To name what hurt. To write it down. To stop carrying what was never yours to carry.⁣ ⁣ If this resonates, sit with it for a moment. Reflect on a time when you felt trapped. What emotions did you carry? And what would it mean to finally put them down?⁣ ⁣ This is a book for the ones who stayed too long. For the ones who left quietly. For the ones still figuring out which one they are.⁣ ⁣ This book was made for you.⁣ ⁣ 🏅 Winner of the Strange Inc Book Awards 2025, Rising From Despair: A Journey to Hope, available across Amazon, Waterstones, and all major retailers.
