POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In absurd times, the first casualty is thinking, and morality follows close behind.

“They are mentally torturing us so that we never do this again,” says Naureen, a 26-year-old teacher and activist who has been detained at least thrice since October 10. “But the more brutal the state is, the more fearless we will be.”

The most recent wave of mass protests challenging the SIR and calling for CEC’s exit has faced extreme police action and mass detentions in the thousands. Protesters are beaten and brutalised on the streets, and in many cases the violence continues inside buses taking them to the so-called detention centres on the outskirts of the city where they are denied legal aid or medical attention.

None of this is legal, lawyers tell us, but the police are misusing provisions of the Delhi Police Act and the BNSS to “suspend law and order”.

Between the time a protester is unlawfully detained and released miles away, a colossal amount of work goes into rescuing them. This work is currently being done by citizen-led networks.

@saumyakalia spoke to both people detained and the people helping to secure their freedoms. Neither is unbowed. Read the story at behanbox.com. Link in bio.

UPDATE on @neowsibora - We are sending people to these 4 detention centres around where she was seen last. Our heatmap shows these are the frequently used ones.

We also tracked two buses of detainees that have reached a new location: Baba Haridas Police Station.

@stvksn is on the ground with a few people. We're still searching.
