The thing I love most about #naposummit is connecting with other professional organizers. Grateful that @twblass was recognized for her tireless DEI work in the organizing industry with the President’s Award. I love seeing more people of color speaking on stages and in leadership roles. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Chicago next year! #naposummit2024 #napo #nabpo #professionalorganizers #blackprofessionalorganizers

Jeanne Fox Alston is a professional organizer and the owner of Your Space Made to Order, LLC. While she has done organizing jobs of all shapes and sizes, her areas of expertise include move management, space planning, and small-space living. As such, she frequently works with clients who are planning to move with decluttering and staging their homes and then settling into their new residence. Another specialty is offering creative organizing and design solutions to clients who are moving into a smaller residence. She became a professional organizer after a long career in newspaper journalism, including The Washington Post, and media-related professional and trade associations. Fox-Alston is a member of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO), and is on the board of the Washington DC metro chapter of NAPO.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to meet, connect, and support other women who look like me in the world of professional organizing.

@ilkachavezlatam told us that it’s important that we run our business authentically. It was so beautiful to see how we engaged with each other as if we had known each other for years.

We laughed, danced, sang, laughed some more, talked, and were reminded that we each have a purpose to fulfill and there is space for us all.

I felt like I joined a new sisterhood. It truly was a life changing weekend filled with so much love and support. I’m thankful to Dalys for creating @blackgirlswhoorganize. 🖤💛🤎

One of the greatest joys of Organizing is face to face encounters with people in our Organizing Community.

Photo taken at 9-13-21 NAPO DC Metro Meeting. Jeanne of @yourspacemadetoorder was the Guest Speaker on Space Planning. She will also present at this month’s BGWO meeting. I also had the pleasure of meeting @aproperpad who is focused on exterior space planning and gardening 🌱🥬

Not pictured here are Andrea and Kellie, @b_dexterous duo who are among the first 10 ladies spotlighted on BGWO over a year ago. It was my first time meeting Kellie in person... very kind.

If not already following these ladies; please follow, support and more importantly make connections. 🤎❤️🧡💛

Note: this was a masked and vaccinated attendees event; we removed masks briefly for the photo

Meet Jeanne Fox-Alston, owner of Your Space Made to Order, based in Silver Spring, MD. Seven years ago, after a long career in the media industry and the trade association world, Jeanne was ready to do something different and started @yourspacemadetoorder (spacetoorder.com). It came about at a workshop when a reinvention coach asked “What is it that you do for which your friends and family turn to you for help?” The answer was organizing. She loves the fact that organizing is very hands on and that there’s tangible evidence of progress at the end of each session. In addition, after long years of working in an office, Jeanne loves being out in the field, so to speak.

Jeanne enjoys projects with many moving parts including working with homeowners who are moving and/or downsizing. @yourspacemadetoorder renders services that includes helping her clients prepare for a move (downsizing, updating and staging the residence) and then settling them into their new home.

Jeanne’s newest project is working with a client that is both a book collector and a knitter. Her son estimates that she has a 30-year supply of yarn in her house! The challenge is organizing the yarn, knitting books and supplies in such a way that everything is accessible without overwhelming the rest of her living space.

Jeanne’s passion is social (partner) dancing—hand dance, salsa, bachata, swing—she enjoys them all and looks forward to it being safe to resume dancing 💃🏿💃🏿! Her favorite motto: Life isn’t about finding yourself; life is about creating yourself.
