The #LightsOnAfterschool celebration keeps getting brighter across San Francisco! We're sharing another collection of #LightbulbChallenge photos from DCYF-funded programs in honor of the 27th annual Lights On Afterschool! From children as young as 5 to young adults age 24, thousands of participants and program staff across San Francisco have come together to recognize the importance of afterschool programs. Behind every photo is a team of dedicated staff helping young people discover new interests, build connections, and find opportunities to thrive. Thank you to all our grantees for making that possible! There's even more to see! Visit our Lights On Afterschool webpage for photos from across the City (link also in our bio): www.sf.gov/lights-on-afterschool-2026

As students prepare to head back to school and our grantees get ready for afterschool programming, we're celebrating the culmination of another successful summer with highlights from this year's National Summer Learning Week! Last month, all 70 DCYF-funded K-8 Out-of-School Time Summer Programs hosted Summer Learning Week events inspired by this year's theme: Learn, Lead, and Belong in San Francisco. From art and STEM activities to performances, sports, and community celebrations, children across the City participated in an amazing summer of learning. We want to thank our grantees and the young people of San Francisco for making this summer one to remember. We wish everyone a wonderful start to the new school year! 📸 Check out photos from all of the 2026 Summer Learning Week celebrations across San Francisco here: https://www.sf.gov/summer-learning-week-2026

🎉🥋 2 YEARS OF MAFH! 🥋🎉 This month, Martial Artists For Hire (MAFH) proudly celebrates 2 years since our founding in July 2024. What started as a vision to unite martial artists in service of community safety has grown into something much bigger. Over the past two years, we’ve built partnerships, volunteered throughout the Bay Area, provided event security, launched free community martial arts classes, supported youth development, and continued proving that martial arts is about discipline, leadership, and protecting our communities. A special thank you to some of our biggest clients @ivalueculture @carnavalsf @sanfranciscolowridercouncil @spheres_bayarea_impact @thecityeats @youthfirst1 @leoneventhall We’ve also reached exciting milestones: 🌐 Our website is officially LIVE! 🥊 We’re about to sponsor our first amateur fight event on July 18, marking a major step forward for MAFH and the local martial arts community. We’ll be celebrating our anniversary at the fight event, and that’s just the beginning! 🎉 Stay tuned for details on our official MAFH Community & Company Anniversary Celebration, coming later this July at the African American Art & Culture Complex. We’ll bring together students, partners, supporters, volunteers, and the community that has helped make these first two years possible. To everyone who has trained with us, volunteered beside us, hired us, partnered with us, or believed in our mission—thank you. This is only the beginning. Here’s to the next chapter of serving our communities through martial arts, professionalism, and purpose. Train. Protect. Serve. #MAFHSSF #2YearAnniversary #MartialArts #FightNight #supportlocal

Youth 1st marked 26 years of supporting San Francisco’s youth and families yesterday with its annual OMI Family Day celebration at Merced Heights Playground. The academic enrichment program provides weekday academic support, educational field trips, cultural celebrations, and opportunities for students to build new skills. The annual event celebrated the organization’s ongoing commitment to enriching the lives of young people and strengthening the community. The celebration also recognized our very own Sergeant Drewkai Butler and Officer Benny Lew, who were presented with Certificates of Honor by District 11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen in recognition of their dedication and commitment to serving the San Francisco community. In addition, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors awarded them its highest commendation for their outstanding service and lasting contributions to the city. The celebration was truly a star-studded event, featuring appearances by Mayor Daniel Lurie, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, and former Mayor London Breed. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s Family Day such a memorable and special occasion. Swipe to the last slide to see the one and only Al Harris steal the show on the dance floor!
