Over the past three years we’ve placed @andigurwicz works in private collections in Israel and around the world. To see a selection of available works, comment ANDRES and we’ll send you the PDF. 🤍

This Israeli artist has been to Mars. Well, almost.

Andres Gurwicz was twelve when he moved from Argentina to Israel, and landing in an unfamiliar place left a mark that never quite faded.

In his ongoing series Residency on Mars, he blends imagery of outer space with the objects of everyday life, exploring the pull between foreignness and familiarity. (His studio is even named Maadim, Hebrew for Mars.) Then comes the bougainvillea, so common across Israel, wild and beautiful, which he returns to again and again as an emblem of adaptation and putting down roots.

He builds each work by hand, one tiny mark at a time in ink, a meticulous and unique technique that helps him process his own experience of immigration. And somehow the result belongs to everyone: foreignness and belonging are feelings we all recognize.

📍 See the work in person: his new show opens at Hanina Gallery this Thursday, July 30, at 8 PM, curated by Hagar Raban. @hagaraban @haninagallery

Happy to announce the next annual cycle of The Lab, launching this coming November for a full year of artistic research, experimentation, and creation.
Our wonderful jury — Guy Bar Amotz, Lida Sharet Massad, Anat Gorel-Rorberger, and Avi Ifergan — selected 11 compelling projects that beautifully complement one another, bringing together artists from a wide range of disciplines: sculpture, performance, ceramics, programming and algorithms, installation, painting, medicine, and beyond.
The Lab will continue striving to challenge itself from one project to the next — expanding the conversation, pushing the field forward, and constantly rethinking artistic practice and its boundaries.
A special thank you as well to Adi Van Velsen and Rafael Mizrahi for joining us and speaking about the remarkable projects they recently presented at The Lab. Thank you to @adiozari for hosting us at her installation“That’s not what we meant” showing till June 13th.
I would also like to thank the entire Lab community — supportive, generous, engaged, and always present at the exhibitions — for connecting us all into one large collective.

The selected artists:

Nomi Tannhauser
Limor Tsror
Yehuda Roth
Youval Hai & Eldad Menuchin
