POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This past October, I got to attend Sazonblea 2025, @conmijente’s national organizer conference, and the experience was incredible. I learned so much and got to connect with my Latinx community from all over the country and see how they combat injustice, racist prosecution, and inequitable policies. Every day was full of joy, laughter, and insight. And to be perfectly honest, WE LOOKED SEXY DOING IT! On God! We were such an attractive bunch!

By day, we strategized how to legally combat ICE, keep our communities safe, and share resources during a time when federal funding is being cut. By night, we built community, broke bread, danced, laughed, and engaged with the local scenes. We shared histories and stories of how Puerto Rican leaders helped build up Chicago as a place of community organizing and activism. We saw how Mijente rose during a time of oppression and need. Through tragedy, we became strong and supported one another, even beyond state lines.

We celebrated as a community on Mijente becoming ten years old and how our membership is diverse and strong. An organization made up of Afro Latinos, queer people, strong women in leadership, politicians, and activists! Our diversity is what makes us strong and special.

I can’t wait for the next time I see these folks. The friendship and pueblo I built will stay with me forever. As the Boston chapter went home, we discussed how to bring our experiences back to our communities and what we can look forward to. Palanté, Mijente, Presenté!

Borders aren’t just lines on a map; they also exist in our families and the spaces between who we are and who we’re allowed to be.

In this book review, Ysabella Osses (@ysaleftyouonread) dives into Rudy Ruiz’s latest work, “The Border Between Us,” a powerful novel that explores what it means to grow up caught between worlds.

Through Ruiz’s words, we’re reminded that sometimes the very walls that divide us can become the bridges that hold us together.
