Very excited to be the play-by-play voice of home @ysuwomenshoops games once again this season on ESPN+, while also taking on play-by-play duties for home @ysumenshoops radio broadcasts on 570WKBN this year as well!🎙️

It is hard to believe that hoops are right around the corner!⏳

🏀 HORIZON LEAGUE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR⁉️ 👀🔥

Former Boyd County standout and former Mr. Kentucky Basketball candidate Jacob Spurlock @jacobspurlock2 is bringing his big-time shot-making ability to Youngstown State!

📊 High School Career Numbers:
🏀 3,580 Points
🎯 628 Made Three-Pointers
💪 1,123 Rebounds
🎯 446 Assists
🔒 293 Steals
🏆 131 Career Wins
🔥 11 Games with 40+ Points
🔥 31 Games with 30+ Points

Spurlock was one of Kentucky’s most dangerous scorers and clutch shot-makers during his time at Boyd County. But he’s MUCH more than a shooter! His ability to rebound, facilitate and impact the game in multiple ways could make him a valuable weapon for the Penguins.

Currently recovering from a knee injury, Spurlock expects to return in the next couple of weeks.

👀 Could the former Kentucky star make some noise in the Horizon League Freshman of the Year race?

Don’t sleep on Jacob Spurlock! 🐧🔥

College Basketball Player - this time of year always reminds me of how much fun I had on that journey. Mine had a beginning and it had an end. What began as a dream as a 14 year old became a reality when I was an 18 year old at Mount Aloysius College. I played my freshman year there and then that spring the Athletic Director Tim Kelly gave me the book “The Last Amateurs” by John Feinstein to read.

I finished the book within a week and knew I would be transferring. I wanted to be a walk on division 1 basketball player.

When I was transferring up divisions I knew I was not eligible right away and needed a way to get my foot in the door. I set my sights on being a team student manager.

I called the basketball office at Youngstown State and left a voicemail for Head Coach John Robic - the next day he called back and left a message.

Fast forward to 2.5 years later - the same coach gave me a chance to make my dream come true. Years later - I look back at how lucky I was to get to be a part of his program for 3 years and graduate as a penguin. Coach Robic was a really good guy.

A lot of people helped put me on that path and encouraged me along the way to go for it. Here are some photos from my experience. The only way you ever get somewhere is….to go for it!

October 15th - this date was once synonymous as the first day of college basketball practice. Each year this day brings back so many memories and an excitement! I was a part of teams at the college level for 14 years in 5 programs. I had many titles during that time in this order- player, student manager, player, assistant coach, graduate student manager, assistant coach, and head coach. Here I share photos from those athletic centers and arenas that I once called home.

I am grateful for the journey that took me to these places, the friendships created, and the dreams achieved.
