When Bere reached out to assist her with dressing for the Gala, I was through the roof happy and honored but then I realized I was in trouble because I am currently working FT and sometimes OT. I knew who to call. I have a number of colleagues; however, that I greatly respect, admire and call on when it's Go time for employers or other projects. I'll be introducing them this season.

Let's start here: Meet BARBARA LWANGA ASHLEY

You may not know Barbara personally but you've been seeing her work for many years now as she has dressed many an artist and/or celebrity. She is both a Fashion and Costume Designer with a foundation in Fine Art: painter, sculptor, you name it. She's a beast, respectfully. She also has experience in bridal and special occasion gowns. Barbara is an alumnus of LA Trade Technical and currently has her work studio in Koreatown. She also offers one on one classes for garment construction and her studio space is also available for rental for events.

There was a lot of work outside our regular jobs from all of us in preparation for the gala and we only had a few days to get ready. We rolled up on Barbara on a Monday and she had the dress on a Friday in the daytime. 🤯🔥 Don't try that at home kids.

We had a great time of fellowship and yummy food as we prepared for the event Thank you Bere!🙏🏽✨
And a special Thank you to Queen Barbara 👑 for going above and beyond.🙏🏽🔥

Chicano Elegance Gala⬇️⬇️ @chicanoelegance

Never in a million years did I believe I would have the ability to attend something so powerful. To watch the community, embody what Chicanx meant for them filled me with so much pride and hope for our future.

Chicanx are those who have a nonanglo (non gringo) vision of themselves. Who know their history started pre-Columbus, those who honor their ancestors and their journey. What a magnificent night!

This would not have been possible without @thrifs_ invited me personally to her @chicanoelegance because she wanted me to experience a fashion show. To then her speaking about what I did to our new Amiga and telling her the situation I was in. @galvanizestem thank you for buying my ticket 😭

To my beautiful friend @eliasdesigns who took her stylist skills to connect me with an amazing team. And what I enjoyed the most, was getting to hear each of their stories. How they began their craft, what they are facing today, and how they choose to continue to grow.

Inspiration for my dress- my beautiful Quetzal. The only bird in the world that cannot be held in captivity because it kills itself or dies of sadness. I am not free until we are all free.

Creation in its rawest form.

The final of my pregnancy photos. It was such a please working with @rustyhoodphoto and @yukimuli creating these beautiful images. Pregnancy was the most beautiful thing I ever experienced. Feeling my baby kick all night was my favorite moment and knowing that even times I was by myself, I was never alone. I made my bestie from scratch 💕🤰🏿
