Ten years ago, Asheville Poverty Initiative, and with it 12 Baksets Cafe, was started with a mission to build community and educate about poverty. “For the Next 10” is our campaign to build the future of our mission by investing in the next decade of transformation, connection, and community impact.

As we look ahead, this campaign is more than fundraising—it’s a commitment to building an Asheville that recognizes our abundance, centers the voices of those with lived experience, and strengthens the relationships that make lasting change possible. Every gift helps ensure that we can continue to build a more connected and compassionate Asheville for the next 10 years.

This program that Jeffrey Burroughs and Kim (executive director) planned with Asheville Poverty Initiative (myself as an intern lead on PR) will result in a show on July 10 and 11th at Rendezvous RAD. This program is about the abundance of resources that when community shares and is supported with sharing of the mind's abundance with artists helping artists; humans can elevate their purpose. Investing in Asheville’s creative economy means making sure artists can actually make a living here. That’s why I’m so proud of Artways: Asheville, a program I’ve been working with Kelly Redfern and the Asheville Poverty Initiative and RADA Foundation to create real pathways into the arts economy for artists facing economic and systemic barriers.

This isn’t just about exhibitions. It’s about income, opportunity, and making sure the people who give this city its soul can afford to stay in it.

We’re just getting started and I can’t wait to show you what these talented artists create.

Voices Network Groups are confidential. What is discussed in the groups stays in the groups.

#hearingvoices
The #groupcare are made up of people with lived experience of voices, #visions , and other unusual #sensory perceptions. Our hope is to come together as peers, able to #expression of our #truths , honoring our personal power in a space #freeyourmind of a hierarchy and judgement.

What’s It Like?
We’re all unique, so it’s unsurprising that voices and visions can be equally individual in terms of their identity, content, interpretation and impact. If you don’t recognise your experience here, that doesn’t mean you’re ‘weird’ or ‘unusual’. #psychhealth #neurodiversity #substanceabuseawareness #recoverysayings #sobrietyquotes #recoveryworks #wellnessadvocacy #harmreduction #madpride #stigmafighter #discriminationawareness #socialwork #booklover #psychosisawareness #madewithlove #viral #preconstruction #powerofnow #piracyofminds #maddnessadvocates #creativedesign #artistsoninstagram #drawingskills #pensnotblades #HearMeRoar

SWIPE ➡️ for the before I'm this absolutely bad a$$.

@yumkel Kel (they/them) won a haircut with me in a raffle done by @wncap (<--- Check them out if you don't know)

Such a strong, beautiful, vibrant soul. We spoke candidly about grief, love, gender, community and self.

Taking the time to ease into an appt and space together.
Giving someone a style that makes them feel confident.
Connecting as humans in this small but special and intimate container means so much to me.

I live for this 💜

Thank you Kelly, and everyone who not only trusts me with their hair but with their energy.
