☀️Beats were all over the place this summer, from Asia and Europe, starting and ending co-ops, and chilling in the Boston sun! One of us even got their wisdom teeth removed and, of course, many Sox games were attended! The Downbeats can’t wait to return to campus and slowly ease into a very relaxed start of the semester… We’ll see you there 😉

As the school year starts to pick up, we’d like to reflect on the amazing work and talent of our Spring Co-ops, Wyatt Waters (@yy.sings) & Joseph Quan (@joeqquan)! Both were important contributors of ideas, unique insights, and productive hours of drawing and model-building. They left a positive mark on the office by exemplifying our core values of curiosity, attentiveness, tenacity, and pragmatism with diligence and a team-player attitude! Thank you both! We wish you nothing but the best in your future pursuits.

Rest and Resilience in Black History Month with @utile_design I’m happy to be selected as the featured artist to create the Utile logo for Black History Month. For this I wanted to showcase my piece, Sunkissed. Sunkissed focuses on the importance of rest as resilience. Featured in my “I am the Sun” series, Sunkissed presents the Sun at home in a field of sunflowers. With the Sun’s contributions to life and creation, its essence is usually consumed and then taken for granted. The field of sunflowers presents itself as a resting ground for the Sun to receive a glimpse of the appreciation it deserves. The Sun depicted in a moment of rest reflects a moment Black people aren’t often afforded. It’s a reminder of the power of rest as an act of resilience. The utile “U” is encased in Corten steel, representing the extensive ongoing weathering effects of withstanding white supremacy in our society. Thank you so much to the folks at Utile. Shoutout to @cyrucity , @gabrielabaierle , and @jccotto for giving me the opportunity to showcase my work.
Enjoy the photography from the artist talk event by the talented @jccotto
